Bennett has a serious gambling problem and no amount of rationalizing, press bashing, and Clinton diversions can excuse it. He is seen now as a hypocrite as so many of these moralizers are whether it be Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton (carrying his Bible) or Billy Swaggert.

The IRS should look into it to see if these large amounts of money were properly accounted for. As a former drug czar, I have some concerns about someone who has a large, obsessive gambling habit. It opens him up to blackmail and other pressures.

Don't be ridiculous. Gambling is legal in many, many, places, and as long as Mr. Bennett was in a legal casino, his behavior is not immoral. Pure and simple - its legal, its not immoral. Just like abortion.

If so, I commend the guy for he has a problem which is a problem to him alone(if it is EVEN a problem)It wasn't an issue until the media made it so.

It doesn't lessen the fact that he is a VERY intelligent and educated person that talks reasonable sense and is one he!! of a debater!

I trust before it all settles that Bill Bennett will walk away untainted.

How is it that Mr Bennett has a "serious gambling problem?" He gambles recreationally. Although the amounts of money might be far greater than you or I would ever consider gambling, I would guess that they are in proportion to his wealth. A "problem gambler" is one who's compulsive, and allows gambling to rule his or her life. If that person's livelyhood or family are put in jeapordy, then that person would be a "problem gambler." Mr. Bennett simply hasn't shown this to be the case.

The IRS should look into it to see if these large amounts of money were properly accounted for. As a former drug czar, I have some concerns about someone who has a large, obsessive gambling habit. It opens him up to blackmail and other pressures.

If the gambling is done in a legal casino within the borders of the USA, then the IRS IS involved. I don't remember the exact amount, but if you win a substantial amount, then you have to fill out IRS forms, and the casino will even withhold the appropriate percentage. In fact, the last time I was there, a man who was cashing in around $6000 worth of chips had to fill out the form, even though he had $10,000 worth of markers, meaning that he had lost around $4000.

If he gambles playing coin machines, then the casino and the IRS knows EXACTLY how much he's won. Typically, if you win more than about $250 in coins, the casino makes a big deal of it (for the other customers, hoping that they'll play even more), and again, they record exactly what the winnings are.

As a private citizen, I have some concerns about someone who labels himself a "former drug czar" . You want to come down from your pedestal and join us mere mortals?
