Ananova:
Germany has introduced new laws making it illegal to kill ants and appointed 85 ant protection officers to protect the insects.
Homeowners and gardeners who attempt to destroy an anthill or underground nest will face hefty fines if caught.
They must now apply for a permit from their local forestry office to have the ants carefully moved to local woods.
"People with an ant hill in their garden must under no circumstances resort to the use of poison," said senior ant protection officer Dieter Kraemer.
"This is a violation of federal nature protection laws and punishable with hefty fines."
He added that ants were highly valued by German foresters for eating insects which attack trees.
A high ant population can prevent costly and environmentally unfriendly woodland spraying aimed at pests such as the Nun moth which attacks pines and other conifers.
I watched the History channel show last night about Hitler. It's hard to believe any human being could actually say in speeches that the Jews needed to be done away with. They showed footage of Jews being lined up, shot and then buried in long trenches. Later they were dug up (took two years) and burned so as not to be found. Not to mention of course the concentration camps.
Think I'll go put out some Amdro on the ant hill on my driveway.
Dang... I thought the scale was part of the pic. Average size: 1-1/4" in length. Not a small dog, but yikes!
Anyway you look at it, the blue guy's out of business:
No law was ever passed like that."
Maybe no "law" was passed...Hitler did away with the legislative body...HE became the law. HE was the state. The state showed propaganda films for years to persuade the people that the mentally ill needed to be euthanized because they were a drain on the economy. They actually showed strong animals killing weaker animals to prove their case (it's done in nature, so it's natural to do with humans).
And from what I saw on the History Channel last night, (unlike Saddam) Hitler never wrote anything down. He gave all his orders in person to avoid being connected with what the underlings carried out.
A "law" may not have been passed but orders were given by ,"the state" to do what Ursus said.
LOL!
Actually, Hitler did not "do away with" the legislative body. The Reichstag remained after his accession to power, what happened was that it (once the Communists were kicked out of it) ceded certain powers to Hitler to allow him to rule by decree.
As to the Euthanasia films, that would certainly be a fantastic find if true. Unfortunately, for you, the Euthanasia program was kept hushed up for fear of the reaction of the people. When they did find out about it, and stirring condemnations were made from the Catholic Church's pulpits, it was unceremoniously ended. The Nazi's did not trust the people to come to favor Euthanasia, so they didn't tell them about it.

Also not true. Some history books, based on actual German documents, would be a better source of information for you than the History Channel. There are lots and lots of Hitler documents that were "written down" by his two personnel secretaries (Gerda and Claudia, IIRC names correctly). The more thorough historians out there have actually done things like bothering to interview them and look at some of these documents. The Germans are famously bureaucratic, and literally EVERYTHING was seemingly written down in triplicate. I assume what you are referring to is the famously non-existant written order to begin gassing Jews. There is a great debate among historians over this between "Functionalists" and "Intentionalists" IIRC the names of the camps correctly, the one positing the slaughter was a fait accompli that arose from happenstance on the ground in fidelity to perceived wishes of the highest levels - read Hitler and Himmler - (i.e. putting barbarians like Odilio Globocnik and Hans Frank in charge of resettling Jews in Poland), and the second maintaining that secret verbal orders existed.
While such an order has never been found, there are copius records of train transports, expulsion orders, death registers, shipments of Zyklon B gas and Coke for fuel to the camps, registers of personnel items like clothing, money, logs of daily executions by shooting in Russia, etc. There is more than enough there for any careful historian to establish exactly what has happened. Somewhat surprisingly (or maybe not???) much of this material has never really found its way before the public eye in any sort of formal history, just like we are totally bereft of a decent history of important figures like Heinrich Mueller, the Chief of the Gestapo. Way too much focus and facination on Hitler himself, in my opinion, has clouded these other areas.
A "law" may not have been passed but orders were given by ,"the state" to do what Ursus said.
The final proof of such orders still awaits discovery. That's why there is debate over it among historians.
