Well, well, well. And yet another anti-Freeper site springs up:
http://www.freerepublicsucks.s5.com/crackdownmay2003.htm
We must be doing something right to have so many Bush haters hating us so much.
Well, we wish you luck. You'll have plenty of competition from FR haters.

This forum is now better sanitized.Taliban apologists need go elsewhere. She was (is).
Jim, is this an accurate description of why Askel5 (a member of this board for 5 years and a former member of the forum advisory board) was banned?

I greatly enjoy this forum and appreciate the Herculean efforts of the founders.
I stay completely out of the steady undercurrent of behind the scenes and off line intrigue that I hear about from time to time.
I only correspond with 4 FReepers off this forum in the real world mainly because of RKBA and hombre stuff interest with two, a homeboy connection with one, and admiration of a sharp intellect with the other (dude).
I come here to read, learn, and opine with like minded folks when possible...and to argue a bit if in context.
I have never seen Liberty Post before tonight but I have heard of it. I have not a clue as to Mercuria's issues here even though I remember her as being quite active in the past.
I must confess though that with all due respect that some of the issues she raises in that link are not invalid. There is a concerted effort here to moderate this forum culturally...I have absolutely no doubt of that. These socially moderate-liberal Conservatives certainly have a right to their views but I fear at times that our popularity here has moderated us more than I thought possible. We have almost allowed the pendelum to overcompensate back to the center on what folks like me used to call the culture war.
That's fine. I'm not going anywhere. I like it here but I have noticed a change.
As to any personal issues going on here with Mercuria and others, again I must confess that I'm in the dark and like it that way.
I also realize that JR and the mods have a delicate row to hoe and that JR does his best. Very few do not get second chances when they screw the pooch. That speaks volumes.
It used to be the battle royale between Libertarians like OWK and tpaine versus CJ and Kevin et al. Now the most common fight is between culture warriors and those who disdain them and literally parrot PC platitudes about culture especially if it's about immigration or religion or race or gender issues.
I was not here back in the old old days so I guess change is inevitable but when I came here lurking in the 2000 campaign, I feared I was not conservative enuff....lol...now I'm an anachronism...in 3 and a half years.
Just my thoughts on this. I would prefer to see less splintering. It does our side no good....especially when it seems like some of this harping is simply for fun even if it is quite vitriolic.

The really scary thing is that Askel's probably the sanest person that ever posted on this forum.

I have corresponded with her. I was on the thread when she was banned. It had nothing to do with the Taliban. She made a comment about the Geneva Convention. Some people reacted and she was banned.
It would be helpful to know what she did so others don't make the same mistake.

I've gone over the edge a few times here and have been suspended for a finite period of time. I don't know why Askel received the ban, rather than a timeout.
To: wardaddy
The Balkanisation of the Conservative movement, does it more harm than the Dems ever could do. That the fringe eliments have and still do ( though to a somewhat lesser extent now ) play silly " gotcha games ", bait, and try to turn threads into nothing but flame wars, not only losses any points that they might have, but abuses the intent of this site completely.
To: nopardons
At the risk of getting myself in trouble here.. I don't think you can lay the blame for this solely at the feet of these "Fringe elements"
If you watch close you will find a bunch from both sides of the fence who just, simply never ended the battle over the Republican primary. The primary ended, but the trolling continues even now.
Neither side ever gave it up, and they both love this "gotcha" type stuff. Both sides.

PS: It's really frustrating. It's like the constant Neo-Paleo tail chasing game that flares up from time to time..
If you wander onto one of those threads and just give an unbiased opinion, based on the article that's ostensibly the subject at hand and invariably you're accused as being on the other "side"
It would be funny if it didn't happen so frequently..

"HairOfTheDog was never rude about anyone except strangers on the internet. At least as far as I know."
Will that do?

Well, like I said, she left FR. Are you implying she was offered the chance to come back? It would be to your credit if this were so.
