A bit of a humorous moment on CNN on Wednesday afternoon when Kyra Phillips, their reporter aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, realized, "I hate to say it," that the TVs in the pilots' ready-room were tuned to the Fox News Channel. Phillips quickly dismissed it as part of the Navy system in which "you've got to get a little bit of every network."
MRC analyst Ken Shepherd caught this candid moment which occurred at 1:13pm EDT as Phillips relayed a question from anchor Miles O'Brien, about how the pilots watch landings, to a Navy pilot who explained that the TVs in their ready-room can show the flight deck.
Phillips pointed out the TVs hanging from the ceilings in the corner of the room, though they were too distant to really see what they were showing: "Up here on these screens, you're going to see the screens up there on the right, I hate to say it, they're showing Fox News. But, you know, that's the Navy system. You've got to get a little bit of every network..."
Just getting a little bit more of FNC.

Phillips quickly dismissed it as part of the Navy system in which "you've got to get a little bit of every network." Since when? I've been told the Collaborators' News Network is the network of record.

CNN is going for the international marketplace. How many airports have an alternative to the the CNN network? None of them (that I know of). Did they play George W's World Day of Prayer ceremony this morning? No. And so on.

Yea, right. I'm sure they watched Peter Jennings and Baghdad Bob for comical relief.

Phillips quickly dismissed it as part of the Navy system in which "you've got to get a little bit of every network." That is NOT what the sailors onboard said today.
They watch Fox News ALL the time.

they're showing Fox News. But, you know, that's the Navy system. You've got to get a little bit of every network..." The US Navy orders its pilots which TV news to watch? And that order results in ... them not watching CNN?
Right.

At least they were caught with a live feed ala Fox did during the shuttle diaster. They were running the CNN feed and CNN managed to get their anchor and logo on Fox. Hey, it's cool as long as it's Fox.

During the hand shaking and picture taking on the deck, I switched over to CNN to see how they were spining it. The talking heads were talking about how Bush I was so popular after Gulf I, but let the economy slide and lost the next election. They were speculating (hoping) that it might happen again with Bush II. Jerks.

I heard this story in the early days of the war. The FNC anchors who pulled the graveyard shift were saying how the Navy ships have a rotational system where the channels change every hour. The personnel wait until FNC's rotation and then watch.

Great pic. It should be shown every time someone says there isn't much difference between a Democrat and a Republican.
