Banned on campus: Boys talking to girls

Virtually every student who has ever attended school has heard the phrase, "No talking in class."

Now, an elementary school in southern Oregon has taken that proscription a step further, by banning all conversation between boys and girls.

The silent fury began last week when 6th-grade teacher Mary Bond at Peterson Elementary School noticed students showing public signs of affection during lunch recess, reports the Klamath Falls Herald and News.

So, to prevent nature from running its course, she banned all discourse between boys and girls, at least temporarily.

"It was not a disciplinary measure," principal Jim Smith told the paper. "It was a preventative measure."

But two 12-year-old students didn't see it that way. Sarah Manes and Hannah Guerrero viewed the ban as an assault on their freedom of speech, especially when they were outside of class at recess.

"Hannah called Sarah and said, 'We gotta do something,''' Sarah's mother Esther Manes said.

So, the girls did what many Americans do when they feel they're rights are being trampled on – they organized a protest.

A total of nine classmates gathered outside the school this week, picket signs in hand, to let school officials know they weren't about to pipe down.

"The girls got a big response," said Esther Manes. "Parents were asking questions. I am so proud of my daughter. The hardest part was to walk into that school after protesting like that. She stood up for herself. I think she learned something important."

Once students and faculty arrived on campus Monday, the picketers handed a letter of complaint to the principal.

Smith says no disciplinary action would be taken against the protesters, and he's willing to hear any complaints from students and parents.

"They have every right to protest," he said.

Oh, yes. Seen this one before. The teacher is attempting to match her personal authority against the collective libido of a class of budding adolescents. To quote Scott Adams, "if you put a little stocking cap on a snowball it'll last a long time in Hell..."

Yep. That is an awkward age when children begin to discover the opposite sex. Looks like some frustrated NOW nags detected the first stirrings of "heterosexism" and they are determined to put a stop to it. My guess is the same school system that is so shocked, shocked, to see boys and girls flirting and holding hands will, when the children are a year or two older, be eager to give them condoms and teach them in graphic detail about all kinds of "alternative" activity.

I suspect that veils, readings from the Koran, and Sharia won't be too far off.

The real problem that needs to be addressed is that 12 year olds are showing public affection towards other 12 year olds.

Thanks to the libertarian scum, the Hollywierd scum, The MTV Scum, the democrat Scum, and the hippie scum, people think nothing of this.

All sex outside of wedlock should be a capital crime. This should be drilled into the heads of the young people along with basic lessons in morality. Things that degrade the moral fabric of society, such as most hollywierd, libertarian and MTV things should be banned and censored.

The minimum standards being something along the lines of I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Dragnet, Ect...

Way back in 1815, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court decided an important case, here are excerpts from that case:

This court is...invested with power to punish not only open violations of decency and morality, but also whatever secretly tends to undermine the principles of society... Whatever tends to the destruction of morality, in general, may be punishable criminally. Crimes are public offenses, not because they are perpetrated publically, but because their effect is to injure the public. Buglary, though done in secret, is a public offense; and secretly destroying fences is indictable.

Hence it follows, that an offense may be punishable, if in it's nature and by it's example, it tends to the corruption or morals; although it not be committed in public.

Although every immoral act, such as lying, ect... is not indictable, yet where the offense charged is destructive of morality in general...it is punishable at common law. The destruction of morality renders the power of government invalid...

No man is permitted to corrupt the morals of the people, secret poision cannot be thus desseminated.

Keep in mind now that the judges on this court had lived through the revolution and fought for the nation's survival. This was just a few years after the Constitution was Adopted. SO the libertarians who are going to scream that these judges didn't know what they were talking about are way off base. (They want you to think that your basic pot head knows more about the Constitution than the men who were actually there at the nation's founding.)

Now why did the court take that position? Simple, a Nation without morality cannot function. A nation that loses site on principle is doomed to go the way of the Roman Empire. Every single nation that has lost sight of basic moral principles has fallen. Homosexuality is anathema to morality. The two cannot exist together. Homosexuality is unnatural (no matter how much liberals will try to convince you otherwise.) And it is immoral. It cannot be tolerated period.

Homosexuality is immoral, Indecent, abhorant, and repugnant. It is a stain on our society, and must never ever be tolerated.

Something tells me that Mary Bond is single.

Yep, and something tells me that she has a "partner."

That is Islam, not Christianity.

When I was around five, I had a girl friend of the same age. We met through our baby sitter. The Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You" was our song.

I remember I was riding in the front seat of my mom's car and this girl was in the back seat and "I Think I Love You" came on the radio and she gave me a hug from the back seat.

That was probably the greatest love affair of my life. None of the others have worked out as well. To be five years old and in love....that was bliss.

Not only do they "have every right to protest," they also have every right to ignore this ridiculous rule.

maybe I was gifted - most everyone in my class seems to have been a year ahead of what everyone here says the right age is

Most of us didn't get our licenses until junior year (16), which would have made us 11 in 6th grade

The guys whe were driving sophmore year were all "special" students

I agree. Kids are being bombarded with sexual images from the media and advertising which dictate our culture, and they become prematurely sexualized. It's a good recipe for breaking down a society.
