I did a search for this article....it has a ring of familiarity but did not see it anywhere. Good topic, nonetheless.

The whole campus is anti-male!

No wonder they can't get men to come to Bezerkely and join the Armed Forces instead..

One reason may be that men are not as enthralled with political correctness as women. Not to mention that colleges have a certain disdain for white males, which account for a pretty large percentage of American males.

The answer to this question is obvious, and stated in the article itself: Among blacks, two women earn bachelor’s degrees for every man. Among Hispanics, only 40 percent of college graduates are male. The article should focus on the true question -- why are so many male minorities skipping college?

Daily Bruin, which asked "Are you tired of male-bashing and victimology?"

Well we've been brainwashing kids now to believe that all men were evil -- now we seen the fruits of the feminist agenda and people are upset?

The fact is that kids today see most education as manipulating facts to fit an agenda of the leftist teachers. If I were in college I'd probably spend most of my time arguing with the commie profs and getting poor grades because of my poor attitude.

A few factors come to mind. One, is the impact of the broken familes on boys. Most single parent families are headed by women, so boys growing up often do not have a father figure to look up to. Another factor is while jobs strictly listed as blue collar are on the decline, many of the jobs listed as service industry jobs are blue collar in nature, such as HV-AC technicians, truck drivers, various maintaience workers, welders and these jobs can pay fairly well, often more than $50K a year with some senority.

As for the fact a majority of people in universities are women, one has to look where many of the females are. They tend to be majors in liberal arts of English, when it comes to technical degrees, except for medical, those feilds are still dominated by males.

I believe the colleges are reflecting success in the corporate area. Professional women have a much more secure future with a Fortune 500 as these companies clamor for diversity percentages.

Maybe we (males) should apply for "minority status".

Now THAT would be funny!

When I was in college and graduate school in the 50's there were a lot more men than women in college. I wish there had been more women it would have improved my odds.

One reason is that men are concerned with learning something that will help them make a living. Most colleges are filled with meaningless courses in liberal arts. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, etc that can be used to get a job are all dominated by men.

I have a PhD in Statistics became a systems engineer and migrated to new business development. I am 70 yrs old and was retired for about 7 years and went back to work as a consultant in Nov 2002. I was proud of the $80 per hour fee I charged. When I told a freind of what I made she deflated me by saying "If you get a few raises you will be making as much as a plumber." It would be much better if for some people to become plumbers, carpenters, etc and go into business for themselves and become rich rather than get a useless liberal arts degree.

Well, it's hard to go to school and be told what a worthless dirtbag you are because you are a male...it sucks the life right out of you.

"Our schools simply aren't made for boys.

I can relate to that. When I had the choice, I preferred (straight) male teachers to the old bags. As I went through both the Army and college at the same time, the "culture" differences were very noticeable. And not just the military context. Even in the '70's. I can imagine it's much worse now.

I will avoid professional or otherwise seminars, if I can, if the predominate speakers are female because they tend to present the material in a manner that's annoying to distraction.

The women are taking over and the Hillary Clinton's of this world will be in charge. That's the sad fact.

BTW, don't accuse me of misogyny. I am married and have an adult daughter. They both agree with me, even in private.

""What does it mean in the long run that we have females who are significantly more literate, significantly more educated than their male counterparts? It is likely to create a lot of social problems. This does not bode well for anyone.""

Um, I think this is a little too "optimistic." The "education" most of these "women" are receiving at these colleges seldom has much to do with literacy, history, real art, or anything that might be construed as EDUCATIONAL. Men, on the other hand, are probably out in the job market, learning things first hand: Counting, making change, working for a living, earning a wage, and handling a budget, among other things, including joining the military. (And, of course, there are exceptions on both sides. But those girls aren't learning how to be good wives, mothers, or employees. Count on it.)

The problem is a complex one...

No it's not. As you said, men have a low tolerance for all the sensitive "touchy-feely" crap that passes for education these days.

Real men want to design and build great things and make them work. You can't learn any of that in today's colleges.

I think this should actually be the natural order of things. Which gender seems more inclined to sit on their ass all day and talk about everything that's wrong rather than actually doing something?

While I did hear things like that in sociology 101 by the time I got into my second year most of that kind of talk had vanished. (Of course I was a business major) I am going back to college at night and the imbalance between men and women is even larger there. My class is currently 13 women and 5 men, all in our thirties. If this is a common occurrence across the country guys are going to get left behind in a big way.
