Americans Marry Russian Women. What For?

American men use Russian women for self-affirmation. The latter seem to be liking this fact

Marriages between Russian women and American men are very successful and harmonious, Olga Makhovskaya, the senior research assistant at the Psychology Institute in Russia's Academy of Sciences says. When an American man switches from the model of American family where husband and wife are partners equal in rights to the model of an Orthodox family, he thus raises his own significance. In Orthodox families men are given more authority and are more respected. It is certainly an advantage for a man and raises his social and psychological status. In a word, American men seem to have tired of the feminism propagated by American women, and it is frequent that they seek Russian women to start families.

Russian wives in America give up the traditional model of the Russian Orthodox family which relieves them of a heavy burden of responsibility and gives a chance to have a normal life in a family where the range of responsibilities is more definite for them: children, family affairs and housekeeping. At that, Russian women enjoy more attention and support from husbands.

As psychologists say, now Russian men undervalue the essence of family. The whole of the burden, housekeeping, upbringing of children, earning of money are shifted onto women. And, at the time when Russian women have so much responsibilities, their husbands spend their time dozing in front of TV sets in desperate attempts to find out the meaning of life and to understand the truth of the universe. They merely disregard everyday problems that are essential for their families as they consider the above mentioned idle thinking to be of higher importance.

That is why, as Olga Makhovskaya thinks relations in families between Russian and American partners are more harmonious. Each party gets what it wants to have. Husbands get authority and status, and wives are given, in exchange, peace in family and well-being. "Families of this kind where husbands are Americans and women are Russians prove to be long-living, as the roles in the family are clearly distributed and the mechanism operates good, although these are mixed families. In such families each of the couple is ready to make concessions and on the whole, wonderfully performs the role."

In addition, as researches held by Olga Makhovskaya reveal, marriages between Chinese men and Russian women are also very successful. ?There are tens of thousands of such marriages in Russia's Primorye region in the Far East. Chinese men are hard-working, they don't abuse in alcohol drinking and bring their wages home. In a word, they have lots of advantages by contrast with Russian men." It is sad, but the researches don't mention for whom Russian men suit wonderfully.

I once did a report on Paraguay while a Geography major.

One thing which struck me was that country had the highest percentage of Europeans of any Latin American country.

Not true. Most of the Paraguayan population is meztizo. However, at one time (actually two times) Paraguay was the PERFECT place for a man to live. In the 19th Century Paraguay was involved in the disastrous War of the Triple Alliance against Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. As a result almost ALL of Paraguay's male citizens between the ages of 8 and 80 were killed. The result, following the War, was that the female population had no male partners. Some European and American males emigrated to Paraguay. Life was GREAT for these males. The women did almost all the work and all the men had to do was breed. Few got married. Why bother with all those available and willing women? For many years in the latter part of the 19th Century, there were maye 20 adult women for each very happy man (almost of whom were immigrants).

BTW, this situation repeated itself on a smaller scale early in the 20th Century with another war....and more happy men emigrating to Paraguay.

Well maybe for the rest, but certainly not Iceland. The only person with any color in their skin in that country (whether by pigment or suntan) is a tourist.

A friend of mine married a Latvian woman, and the relationship mirrors exactly what the article describes. He works hard, brings home the money. She has a part-time job a few hours a week, and takes care of the household. They get along very well.

As for the Russian men being pigs, I think that's pretty much the reason this girl married an American. According to my friend, she left Latvia because every relationship there usually involved liquor and physical violence.

Somebody from Iceland doesn't look so attractive here in Florida. They quickly become lobster red. I saw a family like that this past weekend. Very pale pigmentation and really red from the burning sun. It was painful to see.

She was a West Indian from Trinidad...

For some reason I have been hearing a lot of good things lately about Trinidad. It all started last Fall when I was taking to a woman from Trinidad. She described it as heaven on earth. Since then I have met other Trinidadans who described it similarly. Perhaps I shall have to take a visit to Trinidad (and Tobago).

True but here in South Florida I see a lot of white American men dating/marrying black Caribbean females.

Trinidad is a wonderful place. When Panday left, things seemed to pick up. As with most British colonies, it was better run when the Brits were in charge. It USED to be the place for all Hollyweird to go during the Forties. Trinidad was also a place where you had people from every sort ethnicity, and mind numbing combos of each. Things went down for awhile with intro of American culture of rap and the Nation of Islam tried to gain a foothold. Too bad. Trinis are still British, esp. my mom. The only thing to look out for is islam gaining a foothold in the vacuum of the absence of the Brits.

I can't speak to marrying Russian women, but I do know I'm marrying a Canadian for love. Ya think that could be it?

I hadn't heard that about Islam. However, from all the great things I've heard lately about Trinidad, I really would like to visit there. I've been thinking about writing travel stories. Most of the ones I've seen in the newspaper Travel sections are notoriously dull so I would like to write funny and interesting Travel stories that don't look like I'm flacking for some travel agency (ever notice how most travel stories look that way). Anyway, if I do figure out how to work the Travel writing gig, Trinidad (and Tobabo) would be towards the top of my list.

Yup like my dad. Most of the time, black West Indians do not have the racial hangups that black Americans do. This is explains much of the success they achieve ahead of black Americans, not being racial, it's just true. It is a combo of growing up with white West Indies, and a number of other factors. White and black West Indians have been legally marrying for years, and so it's just different. I am not even sure I feel comfortable comparing black Americans to black West Indians anymore. It was a very different environment.

True. What bias there is exists against American black women because of their attitude. ("Talk to the hand" says it all.) No guy wants to deal with that. But women from the Carribean are a whole different story -- relaxed, carefree, easy to get along with, etc.

it's the same reason there are a lot of American men marrying Asian women.

But all Asian women are flat chested and look like little girls..

The weirdest thing is that here in South Florida, Caribbean and American blacks rarely mix socially. I can't think of any Carribean black women who date an American black males (although I'm sure there are a few). Many more of them are dating/marrying American white males.
