Americans Marry Russian Women. What For?

American men use Russian women for self-affirmation. The latter seem to be liking this fact

Marriages between Russian women and American men are very successful and harmonious, Olga Makhovskaya, the senior research assistant at the Psychology Institute in Russia's Academy of Sciences says. When an American man switches from the model of American family where husband and wife are partners equal in rights to the model of an Orthodox family, he thus raises his own significance. In Orthodox families men are given more authority and are more respected. It is certainly an advantage for a man and raises his social and psychological status. In a word, American men seem to have tired of the feminism propagated by American women, and it is frequent that they seek Russian women to start families.

Russian wives in America give up the traditional model of the Russian Orthodox family which relieves them of a heavy burden of responsibility and gives a chance to have a normal life in a family where the range of responsibilities is more definite for them: children, family affairs and housekeeping. At that, Russian women enjoy more attention and support from husbands.

As psychologists say, now Russian men undervalue the essence of family. The whole of the burden, housekeeping, upbringing of children, earning of money are shifted onto women. And, at the time when Russian women have so much responsibilities, their husbands spend their time dozing in front of TV sets in desperate attempts to find out the meaning of life and to understand the truth of the universe. They merely disregard everyday problems that are essential for their families as they consider the above mentioned idle thinking to be of higher importance.

That is why, as Olga Makhovskaya thinks relations in families between Russian and American partners are more harmonious. Each party gets what it wants to have. Husbands get authority and status, and wives are given, in exchange, peace in family and well-being. "Families of this kind where husbands are Americans and women are Russians prove to be long-living, as the roles in the family are clearly distributed and the mechanism operates good, although these are mixed families. In such families each of the couple is ready to make concessions and on the whole, wonderfully performs the role."

In addition, as researches held by Olga Makhovskaya reveal, marriages between Chinese men and Russian women are also very successful. ?There are tens of thousands of such marriages in Russia's Primorye region in the Far East. Chinese men are hard-working, they don't abuse in alcohol drinking and bring their wages home. In a word, they have lots of advantages by contrast with Russian men." It is sad, but the researches don't mention for whom Russian men suit wonderfully.

This article is not about mail order Russian brides. An interesting side note to this is that marriages between Russian men and American women are at a much higher risk of failure because of mirrored cultural weaknesses.

Generalizing about them, Russian men would probably be considered pigs here in America. They tend to be insensitive and autocratic towards their wives. I do know of one couple in this category though, that violates the generalization and is experiencing a good marriage.

You're correct that that is the perception. Strangely enough though, South America is plenty "white" in parts. In fact, I understand that Argentina is the "whitest" country in the world.

However, there is the latin cultural thing. Having been to the Ukraine and many parts of Latin America - I think we Americans share more of the uptight and cerebral Northern European cultural attitudes with Russians than we do with Latinas. Viva La Differencia!

I am currently being wooed by a Russian some friend of mine (maybe not anymore) signed me into the deal. Of course she will have to wait in line. It seems this mail order bride thingy he got me into, without my okay, also attracts mail order Taiwan, Chinese, et al. Of course they will also have to wait in line. Those diamond mines in Africa DO look like a good solid investment. And I COULD sell a car for a Nigerian and make a 2000 dollar profit by just doing the deal for his friend stuck in the states.

And of course there is the DNC and the donations they want to change the regime in the US. And then I have the whole Health care thing to pay for, and my EPA inspections on my brand new car. Then there is the SARS thing to worry about. It just seems to fill ones whole day.

Maybe I should just get me a Villa on the French Riviera and shout at passers-by, I can be just as rude. Moscow may be a good place for real estate, then I could avoid the whole mail order thing and marry direct.

I have a Nephew who married a Russian woman. She already lived here so might not be typical.

He is actually a smart and handsome guy but a little shy and nerdy. He comes from a conservative family and we were all shocked to learn of the marriage.

We finally got to meet her a few months ago and it was a pleasant surprise. She was not only attractive, she is also pleasant and seems rather conservative herself.

What is wrong with this? Nothing! There are many reasons for the high divorce rate in America, and the above seems to be part of the answer why. A husband without any real authority or respect from his wife is doomed to an unhappy marriage or divorce. The above description sounds similar to the Biblical role models that God commanded for husbands and wives.

I married a wonderful woman from the Ukraine. She is a good wife and mother. So I would recommend this but be careful. Some of the websites that advertise beautiful Russian women are designed to separate you from your money! You may be emailing a beautiful woman that says all the right things and in fact you are corresponding with a guy. So be careful especially if you have not met the woman and she starts asking for money.
