[history]
The first season of PBS's "American Family," in which Edward James Olmos plays the conservative patriarch of a Hispanic Los Angeles family, comes out on DVD today.
But it's his role as another patriarch that's bound to get TV viewers in their 30s and 40s talking. Olmos is filming Sci Fi Channel's miniseries remake of the late '70s TV show "Battlestar Galactica." Olmos takes over the role of Commander Adama, originally played by the late Lorne Greene.

Neat premise, but the show didn't last very long IIRC. I guess it struck a chord with a kid who regularly converted an old gym locker into a race car/spaceship/submarine in the back yard.

You said it right sister! I loved that show.

I'm a long time SF fan, but this looks like a train-wreck waiting to happen. And like the proverbial train-wreck, I won't be able to tear myself away. Yup. And about the character-driven nature of the new show... it turns out that the "Starbuck" character is female, this time around. Given that, uh, change, I wonder if Starbuck will still be a babe-hound? < shakes head in bemused disgust >

Jane was really pretty but "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" pretty much defines the term "PC".
I guess the only way they could have made it any more politically correct would be to change her boyfriend into a Lesbian.

Salvage1: The spaceship made out of spare parts from a junkyard or something like that, right? Lasted what, 1 season in the late 70's?

I thought "First Wave" was very goodTracy Lords did provide a little eye candy.
She was better looking when she was 15.

Sci-fi is showing 'Battlestar Galactica 1980' (not to be confused with the original 'Battlestar Galactica') on Fridays. That is considered to be the WORST sci-fi series EVER made.
By the way, in the new 'Battlestar Galactica' series, Starbuck is a played by a GIRL!!
For those reading this that don't understand how profane and bad a change like this is, imagine if there was a Star Wars remake and Han Solo was played by a girl and you get the idea.
And yes I am a Farscape fan.

The character Starbuck was the Han Solo of the series. Now do you understand.

So, what are they gonna call her? Stardoe? If she's as frisky as Starbuck and the series is PC, wouldn't she be Stardyke?
I've sunk to a new low...

heh-heh....In the mindset of PC, starperson.

Galactica 80 WAS the worst SciFi series ever. Then came the triple threat of SeaQuest DSV, Earth 2 and Space Above and Beyond. Now Galactica 80 is barely hanging in the top 5.

Gee, thanks..Just when Sea Quest DSV was purged from my grey matter, you had to go and screw it up by mentioning it..
