Ashleigh Banfield Lashes out at Own Network [Attacks Savage, NBC Distances Themselves from Comments]
Reuters Wire ^ | April 28, 2003 | Andrew Grossman

NBC News correspondant Ashleigh Banfield has ripped television news networks, including her own, for their 'glorious' coverage of the Iraq war and lack of focus on international news overall.

In a speech Thursday at Kansas State University, she also attacked NBC News for hiring right wing radio talk show host Michael Savage to do a show on MSNBC. Savage recently called Banfield a 'slut' after her reports portraying the radical Arab point of view.

Banfield, who first won notoriety for her coverage from the World Trade Center on 9/11, might be in some trouble for her comments.

In a statement issued in Friday, NBC News said, 'Ms. Banfield does not speak for NBC News. We are deeply disappointed and troubled by her remarks, and will review her comments with her. In the meantime we want to emphasize how proud we are of the journalism produced by NBC News and of the men and women who worked around the clock, even risking their lives, to bring this story to the American public.'

And if you can't tell the difference between what Savage said and what Coulter said then maybe you're the disrupting liberal (Little taste of your own medicine there).

The only difference I see is Ann Coulter and Michael Savage both expressing an opinion in a overtly colorful manner that some find facetious and some find violently hateful. There is zero difference between the two other than style of delivery. The message is the same.

Yes I will dog after BS I see BS and I WILL call ANYONE on it. And yes something stinks. If a FR poster chooses to come and post on a thread, depositing a huge smelly stinking steaming pile of manure, that poster should be prepared for the backlash.

Michael Moore lies and uses distortion of the truth to lend fecundity to his propaganda. Michael Savage and Ann Coulter use wit, style, and verbal gymnastics to express truth without distorting the facts. To say that Michael Savage is the Michael Moore of the right suggests ignorance and a lack of familiarity of Savage's show and beliefs. Those beliefs are shared by the majority here. What many question is Savage's style, that's all.

You still did not answer the question. What's your agenda against Savage? The GOP is a big tent party, and if we are to accept moderate RINOs we must accept hard core RW members like Savage(even though Savage is a libertarian IMO). Frankly, the most extreme ideologue out there who does damage to the right is not Michael Savage but Pat Buchanan.

Savage is a bit tooooo extreme. I like the analogy of the right's Michael Moore. But I can handle Savage before I can handle Moore.

Of course you can handle Savage and not Moore. Savage's message is the truth and Moore's is a lie.You just don't like Savage's style.

Agreed. Mike Savage is one of the very brave few who has the guts to address the ongoing destruction that illegal immigration (aka illegal invasion) is causing this country, and the only one blaring the siren about the necessity of protecting the borders and stopping illegal immigration once and for all. We have had several incursions where the Mexican military has crossed our borders to enable the delivery of drugs... more than 20 million illegal Mexicans are here, some taking jobs that rightfully should go only to Americans, the others simply freeloading, and an estimated 30% are getting some type of taypayer-funded "benefits" courtesy of you and me: free medical, housing, education for their kids, Section 8, food stamps, etc. Not to mention the huge increases of crime and violence occurring, and the costs of incarcerating them in our prisons. And on top of that, we have to worry about diseases like SARS spreading over the border, and illegals who are OTM (Other than Mexican -- like possible Al Queda terrosists).

The apologists like to declare this as a "racist" issue, so they stick their heads in the sand due to political correctness. It has nothing to do with that. An illegal is an illegal. Regardless of where they come from, they should not be here. You may hear a timid peep from Sean Hannity on this subject once in a while, but that is all. And I don't think Rush even addresses this time bomb of an issue. Unbelievably, the annointed talk show "conservatives" all just about ignore this issue, except for Michelle Malkin. What a disappointment.

Language! Culture! Borders! Mike Savage has hit the nail on the head.

I am sorry that Savage is not to your liking, but he does appeal to many. I know people who have never listened to talk radio who have been introduced to it by Savage. I have listened to Savage atleast once when I disagreed with him and thought he sounded crazy, but loved him the next time. My pastor who was not one bit political got that way after listening to Savage.

Well, you've done a good job illustrating your perspective on this thread - You even had a few takers. Mother-hen Limbaugh groupies mostly; jacked up by the memories of many pleasant hours of listening to old 'Rushbo' search for words, phrases, concepts, and anecdotes to fill those long segments between commercials.

You haven't really said anything 'tho -- It's not news that Savage is pushing the limits of PC 'tolerance'. He!!, that's what his best-selling book and runaway ratings are all about . . . And you can just be content to vote with your radio knob, like everyone else.

"Yeah, she's obviously not too bright. I still find her oddly arousing, though. I think she just needs some lovin' from a strong, conservative man to set her on the right course."

Lan, are you volunteering for the task?

I say do it and make her a convert.

You may have to spend more time at it than you originally planned, but like painting a house, it always takes longer than expected. What ever you can do will be appreciated by one and all.

"She did not report from Iraq during the war"

Before the start of the war it was my impression that she was going over. There was a segment where she was going over how she was going to wear her bioweapons suit.

She didn't go. Why? Probably her big mouth kept her home and now she is getting even.

just like Rush before he started playing golf.

REALITY doesn't actually bear that out - I've still got an assortment of cassette tapes I made during those days (90, '91 time frame) ...

(which was Rush's inspiration for being on radio in the first place-listening to Bob Grant saying politically incorrect things on the issue of the day)

"Creative writing" -

- WHEN would Rush have *heard* Bob Grant (what year - what time frame)?

Rush always says the ... and lately, what he calls the "Two-Inch Crowd" ...

Reality I don't think would bear this out either - I recall only *two* segments (on two different days) where he addressed 'two inch crowd' in regards to another issue ...

AND it's not the "Conspiracy Kook Crowd" - it's the Keepers of Odd Knowledge Society in Elsworth Maine.

I love Michael Savage. His TV show this past Saturday was really great - and funny, too. Hard hitting. Maybe you're taking him too seriously, pal. He's an entertainer first and foremost.
