Then again, Franken is a liberal's liberal, so it's not surprising he behaved this way.

Very true.

This is a reply off another thread. I thought it was so interesting...and enlightening...and discouraging.

Subject: Compare the Brave Entertainers of 1943 with today's Stars

The Entertainers of 2003 have been in all of the news media lately.
It seems that Newspapers, Television and Radio has been more than ready to
put them and their message before the public.

I would like to remind you of what the entertainers of 1943 were doing,
(60 years ago). Most of these brave men have since passed on.

Alec Guinness (Star Wars) operated a British Royal Navy landing craft on
D-Day.
> > > > > >
James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in Normandy with the
U.S. Army on D-Day.
> > > > > >
Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was a R.A.F. pilot who was shot
down, held prisoner and tortured by the Germans.
> > > > > >
David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel of the British
Commandos in Normandy.
> > > > > >
James Stewart flew 20 missions as a B-24 pilot in Europe.
> > > > > >
Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) was a waist gunner flying
missions on a B-17 in Europe.
> > > > > >
Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.
> > > > > >
Earnest Borgnine was a U.S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.
> > > > > >
Charles Durning was a U.S. Army Ranger at Normandy.
> > > > > >
George C. Scott was a U.S. Marine.
> > > > > >
Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic
action as a U.S. Naval officer aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the
island of Tarawa in the Pacific Nov.1943.
> > > > > >
Brian Keith served as a Marine rear gunner in several actions against the
Japanese on Rabal in the Pacific.
> > > > > >
Lee Marvin was a marine on Saipan when he was wounded.
> > > > > >
John Russell was a Marine on Guadalcanal.
> > > > > >
Robert Ryan was a U.S. Marine who served with the O.S.S. in Yugoslavia.
> > > > > >
Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed)
joined the Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of
Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
> > > > > >
Audie Murphy, little guy from Texas, most decorated serviceman of WWII.
> > > > > >
I wish I had room to tell you more about Actor Sterling Hayden and an
actor by the name of Peter J. Ortiz (Twelve O'clock High, Rio Grande and The
Wings of Eagles), but this would turn into a book.
> > > > > >
There is a huge gap between the heroics and patriotism of the actors in
1943 and the cowardly despicable posturing of the Hollywood crowd of today. Most
of them have no education with substance, never held a real job, attended some
back street acting school, and now they are self proclaimed experts on
everything. And the media cannot wait to interview them on world affairs.

LOL! I would've been tempted to pick up a few--under the NEW name :-))

I made sure to let them know how I approved of the new name and how I liked the fact they put a sign on the product. I'll try them next time.

This is homeland security?

This is something odd that I think freepers might like to know about. A man with a middle eastern name gets on a flight with tickets paid for with a stolen credit card number and nobody apparently cares.

I just don't understand what Franken was doing there at all. Morning RK, I'd like to know the answer to that one myself. Sounds like a temper tantrum to me, more liberal poor self-esteem. Franken loses it publically--shows he doesn't have control of himself, hasn't figured out appropriate social behavior (or he was chemically altered perhaps).

I saw some of this dinner on CSPAN and there were quite a few celebrities there. I could not understand why they were there, either. The guy who is on Law and Order, Speical Victims Unit (Chris Meroni, I think his name is?), as well as Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) were in the audience.

BTW, I am home today, it being Operation Take Care of A Sick And Vomiting Child.

special FOX report about the Egyptian sailor dying of anthrax

Been trying to find a sourced story on it; he said "only Reuters has it," but it's not on the Reuters website yet, nor is it on the AP pages at ABC, so everyone's being very careful about this one...

Anthrax in Egyptian sailor's suitcase, who died of it. May be part of bioterror attack attempt.
FoxNews ^ | April 28, 2003 | Reuters

Posted on 04/28/2003 11:34 AM MDT by FairOpinion

The Egyptian sailor, who died of anthrax a few days ago, was carrying a suitcase given to him in Egypt. He got curious, opened it and died of anthrax. (His body was dropped off in Brazil, they did an autopsy and found he died of anthrax) There were earlier stories about him, but this is the first mention of how he got it, i.e., that the suitcase may have been part of a bioterror attack attempt. (Fox News actually mentioned this) It was breaking news on FoxNews about 15 minutes ago. They say they got if from Reuters, but haven't seen it on the web yet
