It might not be a bad idea, if for no other reason than to showcase the consequences of a completely lawless society.

The Free Staters/Lunchers are all show and no go.

Imagine the results...a Libertarian city where nobody would ever be sober enough to walk a straight line...In the name of the Constitution of course!

Perhaps they are too medicated?
Or standing on an unemployment line?
Or off trying to get some Democrat elected.

Before the North won the War Between the States and ended the the federalist diversity built into the founder's constitution, states maintained their own distinct identities and competed with one another for residents.
Given this history, conservatives should support the libertarians in their Free State cause if only to aid the cause of federalism generally.

"The Libertarian Party is committed to America's heritage of freedom: individual liberty and personal responsibility; a free-market economy of abundance and prosperity; a foreign policy of non-intervention peace and free trade."
While being extreemly lubricated on illegal drugs perhaps, since the bulk of them seem to love writing about being for all those drugs.

To all,
I think you miss the point...
"It might not be a bad idea, if for no other reason than to showcase the consequences of a completely lawless society."
Moral responsible people do not require laws to live respectably.
"Imagine the results...a Libertarian city where nobody would ever be sober enough to walk a straight line...In the name of the Constitution of course"
So laws are the only thing keeping you sober? If so, that makes you a pretty sad case.
"The Libertarian Party is committed to America's heritage of freedom: individual liberty and personal responsibility; a free-market economy of abundance and prosperity; a foreign policy of non-intervention peace and free trade."
"PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY"...SAY IT AGAIN... "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY" Only the stupid need laws to force them to be "Responsible"
It's a sad, when we can only be Responsible with a gun to our heads, can we slip any lower?

The Free Staters are clueless utopians. While their idea sounds good in theory, in real-time, they apparently have no concept of how the national government will retaliate against them as soon as they start thumbing their noses at "federal" laws. I e-mailed the FSP about this, and the person who responded to me sounded completely clueless to the fact that their actions, if they come to fruition, will have drastic consequences. If the FSP wants to be taken seriously, they'd do well to wake up and smell the coffee...many will look at what they're doing as treason and/or secession.
But what do you expect from a club that has at it's head a 26-year old career student? It might be different if the group were led by a retired military officer or business leader...someone with some life experience and wisdom. But a kid who's never seen the world outside of a college classroom? Please...

"many will look at what they're doing as treason and/or secession."
This is a bad thing? Maybe this will awaken a few that do not realize how far we've move from the system that was earned for us.
It might be different if the group were led by a retired military officer or business leader...someone with some life experience and wisdom.
And no vested interest in the status quo

I recently intercepted, via Short Wave Radio, encrypted, TOP Secret communications from Libertarian HQ to their front line troops regarding this (apparently failed) takeover attempt..
I have only decrypted the first few paragraphs so far, but I will post the rest as it becomes avaliable.
What I have right now reads as follows:
LIB HQ: "Uh, the lemonade stand is a wipe. Repeat, evac now. Get your wounded to the LZ and evac. It's a scrub.. (static) ..Scrub!" LIB1: "I have never seen a ten year old that (censored) mean! And a girl no less! Little (censored) and her (censored) dog!"
LIBHQ: "Charlie, check in! What's.. (static) ..on the ground? what happened? Can you.. (static) .. LZ?"
LIB2: "Roger that. Uh.. (static) ..Bravo Team.. (static) ..told her we were taking control of her lemonade stand.. (static) ..for freedom, and by authority of.. (static) ..She opened up on us.. (static) ..BB gun.. (static) ..began taking casualties and forced back to point of insertion.. (static) ..over."
AIR1: "Roger, am over the LZ now. (static) ..I have the stash on board. Repeat, the stash is secure. Over."

Which state is a favorite? Project officials say a major downside for Idaho is its Mormon population, which isn't likely to support legalizing prostitution and drugs or drop taxes on booze and tobacco.
LOL!
Yeah, gee...
Who would want to live in a hell hole like that?

I'm sure they won't pick PA, so I'm not terribly concerned. I doubt they'll get enough people, but if they do, it'll be interesting to see what happens. I don't know about the legalizing drugs things, but no taxes/no super-DMCA/no anti-privacy laws would be interesting.
I'm looking at it this way: if a bunch of lefties move there, it's a blessing since we'll be rid of them in our states. If the LP's turn out to be rabid supporters of Federalism and limits on Federal power, that's a good thing, too. I'm not seeing a downside at the moment...

""Rather than change the whole nation, it makes sense for all of us to gather in one place," said Elizabeth McKinstry, 33, of Hillsdale, Mich., the project's vice president. The project identifies 10 candidate states..." Hmmm.... Shows how difficult it is for Libertarians to come to consensus, I think. If they would come to a vote to decide upon one state though, why such tyranny would cause many to do the opposite...!

The Libertarian/Greens/Democratic Axis already rules San Francisco. You can tell by the smell in the streets and the costs of government services there.
To: GiovannaNicoletta
It may help if they actually control a city council first before they decide to take over a state. At least they think big ;-)

*LOL* Bro! Most people dig the personal responsibility thing, but that's hard to sqaure with most of the Libertarian threads here turning into the usual pro-drug screeds. If the Libbys would just dump the relentless "expand your mind" claptrap, I'm sure they could get their 5,000 people in a heartbeat. It's that directly irresponsible high-school druggie thing that keeps saner minds away.
