After ignoring the story for five days, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton was finally forced to respond Thursday night to an allegation that she fabricated records of meetings with families of 9/11 victims - after Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly broke the mainstream media embargo on what some are calling the most serious charge ever lodged against the scandal-scarred former first lady.
In a statement obtained by "The O'Reilly Factor," Sen. Clinton's spokesman Phillipe Reines attacked author-publisher Steven Brill, who alleged on Sunday that Sen. Clinton had lied about her role helping 9/11 families - then had her office generate phony documents to back those lies up.
"Brill's accusations are completely false and an obvious last ditch effort to jump-start anemic book sales," Reines said, referring to his just-released book "After: How America Confronted the September 12 Era."
"It's hard to understand why Mr. Brill would choose to exploit such a horrible tragedy in this manner," the Clinton spokesman added.
On Sunday Brill told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg that Sen. Clinton's office tried to grossly exaggerate her role in helping the families of 9/11 victims.
"They gave me documents and phone calls and things like that which just plain never happened," the author-publisher alleged. He described the Clinton account as "an elaborate story, with an elaborate subtext of memos and phone calls - a long, long story."
But he charged, "None of it turned out to be true."
In New York especially, attempts to capitalize on the plight of 9/11 victims is regarded as a crime lower than child molestation. Ground Zero, for instance, is still considered such hallowed ground that legislation was proposed this week to ban street vendors from the area.
Brill repeated his allegations Thursday afternoon on O'Reilly's nationally syndicated "Radio Factor" show. But when he appeared later on the talk host's top rated TV show, the former law school classmate of Mrs. Clinton sought to downplay the impact of his account.
"I know this is a big story for you," Brill told O'Reilly. "But I don't think it's quite the earth shattering story that you're making it out to be."
O'Reilly took note of the publisher-author's sudden decision to minimize the importance of the damaging report, telling Brill, "I think you're afraid."
Minutes later, the talk host told a guest who was on hand to defend Mrs. Clinton, "Brill is a little scared. I don't care what he says. He was much more forthcoming on the radio."
Both Sen. Clinton's Washington, D.C. and New York offices declined to return NewsMax.com's phone calls on Tuesday seeking comment on Brill's account.
Oh. He must have forgotten about how the Hildebeast kept pushing that bullclinton story about Chelsea jogging/going to jog around the Twin Towers while drinking a latte grande on the morning of 9/11, all because Schumer got a lot of sympathetic press because his daughter *really* was a few blocks from the WTC that morning.
And I suppose this turd forgot all about the fiction piece Chelsea wrote for Talk magazine about how she imagined being near the towers when the first one came crashing down.
After the RNC didn't fall for the bait, poor Hillary was forced to wait for simple-minded O'Reilly to finally pick Brill's bogus story up.
What *kills* me is that so many here on FR think that Hillary was ignoring Brill's story. The truth is that the liberals simply wouldn't get any traction from denouncing fellow socialist Brill. No, they had to wait for someone labeled "conservative" to pick up the bait story, but fortunately only lowly O'Reilly went for it.
Of course, everyone else recognized the story as a classic "float a nasty rumor that we can later deny to get sympathy" ploy...
yes, anything against clinton (the clintons)must be a lie/part of a vast right wing conspiracy!
Personally, I'd *never* seek her help for anything, as I've read and heard far too many stories like this. When I did have a significant post-9/11 problem, I contacted every other lawmaker but her -- from my state assemblyman to Governor Pataki. The best help came from my state senator's office and a higher-up at the LMDC.
Why should these people have to jump through hoops in order to get a meeting with their elected public servant?
Oh, and as far as I'm concerned, she can go to hell for the obnoxious, self-serving stories that she and her repugnant daughter concocted after the attacks, just to grab for some sympathetic attention.
Looks like Hillary still has a bunch of degenerates working for her.
