ATLANTA — The debate over Georgia's state flag has created a rift not only in the state's Democratic Party — lawmakers from both sides of the aisle in the state legislature are hoping a technical impasse will get rid of the issue for good....

More and More... we see people walking around barefoot in the locker room just waiting for someone to step on their toes with a pair of cleats....
Its ridiculous!

Are the stars-n-bars racist? Are they a symbol of state's rights?

Do we vote on it? Or do we let the loudest minority make the decision because they are "offended"?

It amazes me that the GA reps from Atlanta will not let the "peoples voice" count. What gives the minority the right to trample over the majority? I was indifferent about the stars and bars, but the more I see whats happeneing the more I want it to go to a statewide vote. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would be crying foul. It angers me that they have to cheat and intentionally put the wrong dimensions in order to bring it back from the senate. There are more pressing problems facing the state than the damn flag!!!

Doesn't work like that. People like to vote on the issues rather than have them rammed down their throat.

I rarely wear the tinfoil. But I am of the opinion that the whole thing has been a setup. They passed the bill to allow the vote but.....amazingly......somebody got the the size wrong. Now its too late.

That conveniently allows many to go back to their rural district and say "I voted for the flag Bubba Joe, but it just wasn't to be" while the vote doesn't actually take place. Hmmmmm.

I see from the date you registered that you are new. You can easily see from FR archives that the 'flag' is a hot topic. Personally, I could care less and think they should leave the flag alone. One can easily say the current stars and stripes are racist.

One cannot say that the stars and bars are racist. This is not the Confederate Battle Flag that they wish to fly.

Why is it wrong to honor the glorious dead of our Fathers?

They fear that if the decision is left up to the public, the Confederate battle flag...will once again be on Georgia's flag

I bet they are right, and what's wrong with that?

If that's what the people of the state want, let them have it

Personally I've never had a problem with the flag. Everyone, including the black students, watched Dukes during the eightied. I just assumed that the stars and bars were roof decoration for souped up cards. Well I can understand why SOME black people do not like the confederate flag, esp. older people who may have suffered under Jim Crow. At the same time, I just have to believe most people do not care. I've seen black bikers with the 'stars and bars' on their helmets and patches.

I just wonder what the agenda is in eliminating a cultural symbol that means a lot to people?

Exactly. Many many people are proud of their family members who fought and died for the Confederacy. No one raised a stink about the postal stamp for Rosa Parks (communist) but many are willing to scream about their grandfathers' service. It's not the battle flag that that Georgia wants to fly, after all. Why can't we honor all of our dead?

Maybe so. But I am much more inclined to believe that it really is not much more than a way to keep them on the PLANTATION. If the VICTOCRAT orgs like the NAACP can keep them riled up about this kind of stupid stuff, they may be less inclined to look at the real problems in their communities. If you want proof that this is a manufactured issue just think back to 1996. The OLYMPICS were held in ATLANTA GA. Was there ever a PEEP about the flag, when the whole world was there? NO, because they hadn't thought to make it an issue at that time. There was NO boycott, not one complaint, as the OLD GA flag flew over athletes from all over the world for two weeks.

Actually there were a lot of complaints. And the GA flag didn't actually fly. It was sort of banned from being seen.

In reality, that Olympics was pretty much the blandest Olympics ever produced due to political correctness. Any visitors from around the world had to think that the sum total of Georgia history and heritage was between 1956 and 1968 based on the program.

In Australia they highlighted both the positive and the negative, they highlighted the aborigines, they made fun of the wildfires and bugs, they had fun with their "prisoner" ancestors and sang waltzing Matilda.

The Atlanta ceremonies would have been a lot more meaningful and interesting with some yankee marchers and rebel cavalry and maybe even playing Dixie once in addition to the Civil Rights movement, Martin Luther King, etc. Instead we got a politically correct filmstrip followed by Hollywood cookie cutter dance routine. Those Olympics could have been in Toledo and nobody would have noticed that there was any cultural difference between the two cities or regions. It was all hidden.
