"You can't intentionally harm an animal," said Daytona Beach Animal Control officer Melody Baum.

Really?

So, you can't kill an ant? Or slaughter a cow?

I think this person needs to choose her words a bit more carefully.

There is a up to $500.00 (not to exceed ever $25,000) fine to any one that kills an 'endangered' fox, or upsets/touches certain turtle nest eggs along our shores. Under the detailed listings of the federal Endangered Species Act.

There is a $350.00 to $500.00 'amount due' to kill the human species. (AKA abortion) And in second/third human trimesters; scissors are jabbed into the HUMAN head and the brains are sucked out-In elective surgeries- daily, in the United States, all under the guise of a woman's "right." The only real "right" is the "right" to remain silent.

When will humans become "endangered" and protected?

When will the so called pro-"choicers" realize basic science skills of the food-chain? Human's are NOT at the bottom of the food-chain.

Do they really see what they do, with their political correctness all in the guise of a "woman's right"?

"I've got to look and see what happened," Cubs manager Rick Kranitz said. "I'm sure the intention was not to kill the bird."

Of course not. You're the manager. What else are you going to say.

If there is cruelty to animals, this is the case.

This is not the first incident involving baseball players hitting birds with balls.

In 1983, Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield killed a seagull in Toronto with a warmup throw. Police charged him with animal cruelty, though the charge was later dropped.

So folks were nuts back then too.

What a jerk. I hope they give him the max fine allowed by law. Then the baseball commission should fine him enough to really get his attention.

Then poke him in the eye with a sharp stick.

Maybe not the stick thing, but what an a$$hole.

In March 2001, pitcher Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks struck a dove in mid-flight as he delivered a pitch in a spring-training game against the San Francisco Giants. The dove was instantly pulverized.

That was pretty cool. It was like someone blew up a down filled pillow with a M-80.

Although I'm not for intentionaly inflicting pain on animals just for laughs.

veterinarians are using anti-inflammatory drugs and are trying to get Ozzy to eat.

Sounds like what my mom would do - aspirin and chicken-soup fixes everything.

Where was the pitcher throwing from? Certainly there'd be no realistic way to throw the ball from the pitcher's mound to the top of a left-field light pole (250+ feet away?), much less with any degree of accuracy.

I once killed a bird on a driving range. I smacked the ball low (I'm a lousy golfer but every now and then I can drive one a little ways). It was kinda low and hit the bird mid air. The poor thing flopped around in the air and fell to the ground.

I felt badly. Dh was with me and kept calling me a "bird killer (joking, of course).

I think I knew about RJ killing the bird. Giants spring train here in AZ.

For the pitcher who did it on purpose I hope he does get fined.

When I read the title my first thought was "you've got to be kidding", assuming that the player hit the ball and an accident had happened. I'm disappointed that it was otherwise.

This guy is a jerk and a judge should sentence him to 10 fastballs in the groin... :(

People who hurt and kill animals for sport are slightly lower than pond scum ; I have NO problem with those who harvest animals hunanely for food or fur.

It is the mind that ENJOYS inflicting pain that worries me.

There's a lot of these type jerks around. Years ago, I worked the window at my family's golf sports center. Twenty-two acres of green grass and river abutting the practice range.

In season and in the mornings, the migrating geese (the big, tall ones) would rest in a line across the range about 75 yards from the tee line for about an hour.

I had to watch for the golfers aiming for these beautiful birds. They thought they were in a shooting gallery at an amusement park. They would deliberately hit fast grounders at their targets. A direct hit would kill or maim these stately creatures.

These sadists were not riff-raff....they were educated, well-to-do residents in an affluent area. I can't tell you how many times I had to run to the line to tell them to knock it off or I'd kick them out and ban them from ever coming in again.

Most were sheepish and stopped doing what they were doing, but I was afraid that some of them would conk me on the head with their golf club.
