Cuba will bid for the 2012 Olympics, a decision that will place Havana as the long-shot candidate in a strong field that already features New York and Madrid, Spain.
The Cuban Olympic Committee will hold a news conference Monday to discuss the bid, the group said Tuesday.

Isn't Baghdad considering being the Olympic hosts in 2012? Or has their application been withdrawn because the person in charge of submitting it has quit managing his country's Olympic program by torturing all of the athletes into (non-)performance.

Well, Fidel will be dead by then. Or will he? I would be more suprised if he weren't.
Once the old guy kicks, it's anyone's guess which way Cuba will go. If they go for newfound freedom, there's no telling how prosperous they could be.
Just imagine how popular Cuban cigars will be once they're legally avalible from the US!

Yes, I suppose the IOC can pick Cuba to hold the Olympics there in 2012. We should have fixed it up by then.
