Arizona doesn't seem to have much luck with governors for some reason.

Twenty years from now it will still be called "Squaw Peak" - as will the roads and businesses with "Squaw Peak" in their names.

Nothing but more tiresome PC bull$#!+.

This was handled so poorly. The issue should have been sent to the ballot for the citizens of the state to decide. Our budget(deficit) doesn't cover the costs of signage changing much less a early primary. She has one agenda & one agenda only.

"I regret that my staff member dealt with (Detective Tim Norton, a Phoenix police officer) with a very heavy hand," Napolitano said."

So she's not sorry she did it, she's sorry that the person whose arm she was twisting put up such a fuss that she had to be "heavy handed."

I recall a bunch of people Defending Napolitano and her decision in the last thread on this (FR's usual male feminists).

"Arizonans find the name squaw offensive.

Not all Arizonans. She didn't ask me! Besides, Squaw Peak has had that name for so long, that people don't even think about what "squaw" means, or that it's supposed to be offensive (according to the PC crowd).

I tend to want to win by persuasion and by that I mean convincing people that my ideas are better.

I had a thought of Janet holding a hot branding iron over some poor soul whom she is trying to convince via persuasion that her ideas are better.

I thought the process was not reflective of my governing style. That will not happen again."

I predict her rule governorship isn't going to be rosy or guiltless.

I will never, never call it Piestewa Peak. I can accept Piestewa Parkway but it sticks in my throat. That is a sensation that will never, NEVER be felt by the estemes Ms. Napolireno.

I'm a woman, and I loved the name "Squaw Peak." Napalm sure didn't speak to me about the name change.

I think it would be lovely to have some kind of a memorial set up for our brave troops in this war. I then would like to see a Vietnam Memorial for our brave troops there. Then maybe -- this would probably be way too much -- a memorial for our WWII vets. We could put all three of them at the bottom of Squaw Peak.

While I'm on a rant, we are supposed to wait FIVE years to change the names of geological areas. But, of course, our Governor couldn't abide by rules she didn't make in the first place.
