Actor Rick Schroder on President Bush: "He's a Fantastic Guy"

Saturday's Names & Faces column in the Washington Post, compiled by Matt Kane, included this item:

Rick Schroder, the child star formerly known as Ricky, really digs nature. The onetime "NYPD Blue" star was in town yesterday, shovel in hand, taking part in Interior Secretary Gale Norton's national volunteer Take Pride in America program.

It "inspires people to take pride in parks," Schroder told us while planting trees alongside Mayor Tony Williams and schoolchildren in Watts Branch Park. "I've been involved with these issues for the past 12 years because I have a cattle ranch."...

Schroder, who is not shy about his conservative views, also met with President Bush during his brief D.C. stint. "He's a fantastic guy, let me tell you that," Schroder said. "I told him I wanted to help him get reelected."

Schroder's comments follow another second-tier celebrity praising President Bush. As recounted in the April 12 CyberAlert, on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly, Shannen Doherty extolled her love for Donald Rumsfeld, said she's "a big supporter of President Bush" and revealed that on her refrigerator she displays a picture of herself with Ari Fleischer. See: http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2003/cyb20030412.asp#6

END of Excerpt

Schroder starred as "Detective Danny Sorenson" on NYPD Blue from 1998 to 2001 and also starred in the early '80s sit-com Silver Spoons and later in the Lonesome Dove mini-series.

CUT TO MILLER HBO with MAHER

When liberal author/professor Michael Eric Dyson complained on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night about how President Bush went to war in a crusade of Christianity over Islam as evidenced by how Bush "bows his head to God and prays to God," actor/comedian Dennis Miller fired back with an anti-Clinton quip: "At least he's not bowing his head to watch..."

Bush "bows his head to God and prays to God,"

And, of course, that would be a bad thing.

Kinda scary how the anti-God/pro-liberal stance goes together. Recently visited a friend and her son (a master's student in physics) went on a rant. Knew he was liberal but was shocked at his attitude about God. Think he's been in the UC system too long.

Rick Schroder played an American major (the name escapes me) in command of a battalion in WWI for the A&E movie: “The Lost Battalion”. It is a fascinating study in courage, leadership, and the horrors of war based on a true story. I recently found it on DVD, and strongly recommend it for those interested in military leadership.

Given his current gig, it's not surprising.

I finally caught Miller's latest bit on HBO (I think "Raw Feed"), which was taped prior to the invasion...and he went off on everything liberal. From the ACLU to the caribou in Alaska and of course, Clinton. He got some pretty good laughs considering it was taped in Chicago.

Hehehe. I didn't even catch my 'influenced' remark. It was unintended. For those who didn't know, Holden was under the 'inluence' of alcohol for many years, and died in a drunken fall. Very, very sad. He died just days before Natalie Wood.

Bill was one of the Old School Hollywood Actors. Most of the current crop couldn't get a job shining his shoes.

I think there were creative difficulties. He was excellent in Blue...the show hasn't been as good since. Dennis Franz is excellent.

His most liberal cause became wildlife conservation, which his ex-partner, Stefanie Powers, is carrying on for him in his name.

I was not aware of that. Wildlife conservation isn't all that liberal an idea, either. (Now, environmentalism, OTOH...)

The William Holden Wildlife Foundation is what Stefanie is running. She's done some wonderful work in his name.

"At least he's not bowing his head to watch..."

If it ever becomes legal and safe, Dennis Miller ought to be cloned.

You beat me to it. I was going to post that, too. Yes, they certainly DID have to get in a dig, didn't they? Obviously, 'first-tier' celebrities have more sense than 'second-tier' celebrities and that's why they're liberals, right (and obviously make more money). The inference is that liberal celebrities are smarter and wealthier than their ninny conservative wannabe-celebs. sheesh

Won't they be surprised when some of these so-called "second-tier" celebraties replace their "first-tier" counterparts? Methinks the number of, ummm, irritated Americans who now vote their opinions at the box office and with their remote is already having an impact on those not-too-bright first-tier dolts.
