So require more than a driver's license. There are ways of proving you're a legal citizen, without too much hassle on the part of the voter.

Most democrats do not want to require ANYTHING for voter registration. Not even a driver's license. That discriminates against minorities who don't have drivers licenses. There are not many states that currently have same day voter registration. Minnesota is one of them and California just voted it in but I can't think of many others. It's a bad, bad idea.
