Poor Sean Hannity

Poor Sean Hannity

Sean Hannity, a radio talk-show host and Fox News whiner, has a one-rut mind. Every criticism or dissent, no matter what the subject, the topic or the source, is a left-wing attack against his hero, George W. Bush.

Well, what can you expect from an immature groupie? Every time he tries to think, his face reflects the pain of the effort. But he really showed his emptiness recently when he said that criticism of the United States failing to guard the Iraqi National Museum was — you guessed it — just left-wing soreheads who are mad that President Bush's war has been so successful.

Give me a break. That museum is one of the five greatest museums on Earth. It contained treasures that are the heritage of mankind. There are 140,000 U.S. military personnel in Iraq. We've protected all the oil fields, north and south. Do you really believe we couldn't have spared two fire teams to guard the irreplaceable artifacts of the beginnings of Western civilization? Of course we could have. Somebody just goofed.

This is not a left/right, liberal/conservative issue. It's not a question of patriots versus traitors, as the morons among the neoconservative crowd try to paint every human being who refuses to click his heels and salute their guru, Richard Perle, and their emperor, George Bush. This is a cultural issue. Three great treasures — the museum, the National Library and the largest collection of Koranic writings in the world — were looted and burned. Since we had destroyed the Iraqi government, it was our responsibility to protect them.

I don't blame President Bush. I'm sure he's unaware of their existence. After all, he brags about not reading. But what would we say if the crowds who have rioted in Washington in the past had been allowed to loot and burn the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress? Do you think we would have accepted an excuse that there weren't enough cops to protect those two treasures?

One hates to disillusion the permanently adolescent among us, but this tiny sliver of life in which we are participating is a dot on a long line of human civilization. One day, we will be as forgotten as the Assyrians, and hopefully some museum will have artifacts from our brief stay on the stage of history.

There is a definitely a whiff of anti-intellectualism — so characteristic of fascist states — in the air. Beware of bully boys who worship the military and scoff at museums and libraries. Beware of people whose limited brains see everyone as either an ally or an enemy. Beware of people who can't tell the difference between patriotism and military conquest. Beware of people so stupid and ignorant that they accept anything and everything the political and the media demagogues tell them.

Thomas Jefferson, who would have been outraged by the loss of the museum and the library, said, "Those who expect to be ignorant and free expect what never was and never will be." Amen cubed.

I'm no longer concerned about liberals or conservatives, leftists or rightists. I just pray to God for a non-ideologue with a three-digit IQ. If we don't elevate the level of intelligence and integrity of our government, we are going to end up floating on the cesspool of history.

As for anyone being disappointed that the war was conducted rapidly and successfully, that's bull. I was opposed to the war, but I'm damned glad it was quick and there were as few casualties as there have been. Every anti-war person I know of or have read feels the same way. You have to be a really sick puppy to imagine that anyone would want to see Americans die just because they disagree with the policy that put them in harm's way. Let me spell it out for the mentally impaired: People are anti-war because they do not wish to see anyone die — our soldiers, their soldiers, our civilians or their civilians. Anti-war is pro-life.

I enjoy hearing Mark Levin on the show - he's a sharp as they come.

My husband, my mother and I love Mark Levin! His occasional "crank calls" on the air to Sean are just the tip of the iceberg of Levin's wit. The Great One has his own radio show on WABC (in the NYC area) Sundays, noon-2PM. We've been lucky to hear it a few times, usually while driving. Some of his uninterrupted diatribes - and interactions with ultra-liberal callers from NYC - have been SO funny, we've nearly driven off the road, we were laughing so hard!

Well, this is one area where we part company - opinion wise. What if those terrorists started popping off priests in that church - would you be so willing to let them die in order to protect the building? I would not. When we hold on too dearly onto this world and what is of this world, we lose the next one.

SH does not claim to be the Maha Rushie heir... Based on Rush's drive, his heir is either a gleam in someone's eye or currently in the womb. Kinda like Eldrick Wood's heir.

Not sure what "red meat eating" means... sounds like something an anointed one would say. Ditto on "gravitas".

I still like Mathews. I appreciate his understanding of backroom politics which he learned firsthand while working for Tip O'Neill.

I think he misses the days when after fighting all day on the house and senate floors, memebers of both parties would go out and get drunk together as opposed to what is the current case.

You guys should put the blame where it belongs. The Americans didn't destroy the museum or the artifacts. The Iraqi people did. The Iraqi people were freed by us and what was one of the first things they did with their new found freedom - destroy their own museum and artifacts.

Put the blame where it belongs - on the Iraqi people.

" big deal, so we broke a bunch of stupid clay pots."

And, just how many US lives are YOU willing to lose the protect those "pots"?

That is not the point, I agree that of course human lives are more important, but to make that statement, "so we broke a few clay pots," shows just plain ignorance on Hanitty's part.

BTW, that is not the only ignorant statement he has made. And to think I used to really admire this guy. I haven't for a long time now.

Ok, so they broke some REALLY OLD clay pots. This was done by professionals looters, thieves. And, just HOW would the troops stop the looting if they were there? BY SHOOTING THEM, that's how.

And, if THAT happened ALL the news outlets would all of a sudden label the looters, INNOCENT CIVILIANS.

Don't think for a second, that i would happen JUST like that.

Why does it fall to the US military?

Madam, if we can protect oil wells, we can protect antiquities.

I don't think we went into Iraq to replace one form of barbarism with another.

I'll have to check that out.

His columns in the Washington Times have been superlative for years. And his role as Santa on the Hannity show this year was both funny and touching, as kids called in for a few words with St Nick.

I think they reserve their "fatwas" for those of us who do not bow to their barbaric religious doctrine. These folks are something else. Last night on the news I saw hundreds of Shiite Moslems literally slithering on their bellies along the street like snakes as part of their "pilgrimage" to the holy city of Karbala. I thought they were lunatics for flogging themselves until they bled like stuck pigs; but now I see they also act like serpents. With practices such as these, and their abject hatred of anyone who does not embrace their twisted religion, it's only a matter of time before a real "clash of civilizations" occurs. These people cannot assimilate; they do not want to live in harmony with others; they are hell-bent upon forcing their sick theology upon the rest of the world. Damn it, bring it on, and let's end this thing. Because like the cancer it is, if we do not stop radical Islamic fundamentalism now, it will only be harder to do so in the future. Religion of peace my a*s!

How many antiquities can feed a hungry population? I submit to you your priorities are wrong. Why are these "antiquities" worth the life of an American solider when the people of Iraq don't value them? The antiquities were simply not worth defending. Not at that price, not with that attitude with the indiginous population. The Japanese, the Germans never looted their museums after WWII. If you valued them so much, why aren't you (or Human shields) there protecting them? Armchair bitching is easy.

I see. So are you of the "No Blood For Oil" school of thought?

Not at all....just calling it as I see it. It is a matter of priorities.
Assumptions are running rampant around here of late.

"I'm hoping to learn the identities of what was reported as journalists caught trying to smuggle paintings into Jordan over the weekend. Unfortunately, it seems the pictures and paintings were seized and the attempted smuggler or smugglers let go due to some supposed lack in the law. Conveniently, the identity of the person or people has been withheld."

Very interesting. Do you think the poor soldiers who are holding bags of money ($650 millions to be exact) are not going to take a few rolls?

Some already tried, got caught, and will face the appropriate consequence.

What is your point?

Some of us are "defensive" only because some of you have gobbled the whole "looted antiquities" story whole.

You don't know a single fact about it and neither does anyone else. It could have been totally fabricated by the sunnis working at the museum, and the NYT. It wouldn't be the first time.
