Methinks the New York Times was just trying to rile up the "Arab street" and make things as difficult as possible for the administration.

Lying, or shading the truth if you will, is nothing new for the so-called "paper of record". Nor is it for Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, or any other Left-leaning news gathering orgainization. Like my cousin said, these guys are "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" disgusied as journalism.

As long as Syria is a threat to isreal and the region we will have bases in Iraq. Look .... We have bases in Saudi Arabia and have been asked to leave. And they were our Allies. So firgure we are there for good and it is good for us and good for the region. Any future administration can overrule a previous admin.
