The Arab American Institute Foundation is proud to announce that this year's recipients of the Kahlil Gibran ``Spirit of Humanity'' Awards include Amnesty International USA, Mercy Corps, MTV's ``Fight For Your Rights'' Campaign, former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, and veteran journalist Helen Thomas. The awards will be presented at a black-tie gala on the evening of Wednesday, April 23 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
Amnesty International USA's Deputy Executive Director Curt Goering will accept the award on behalf of the organization, which is being recognized for its leadership role in human rights advocacy. Chief Executive Officer Neal Keny-Guyer will be on hand to accept the Mercy Corps award recognizing the organization's commitment to humanitarian work throughout the world and, in particular the Arab world. Company President Van Toffler and President of Entertainment Brian Graden will jointly accept the MTV award recognizing the company's ``Fight For Your Rights'' campaign to empower young Americans to fight discrimination and intolerance. Mary Robinson and Helen Thomas will join the above to personally accept their awards.
Now in its fifth year, the 2003 awards gala will also feature a special address on domestic and foreign policy by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, special remarks by human-rights activist Bianca Jagger, a recital of one of Kahlil Gibran's most famous poems by Arab American actress and star of the hit series ``Just Shoot Me'' Wendie Malick, and a rare Washington performance by comedians Ahmed Ahmed and Aron Kader, also known as ``The Arabian Knights''. Both comedians have received recognition throughout the country for their unique brand of humor, including features in The Wall Street Journal, on ABC's ``The View'', and in Newsweek.

a special address on domestic and foreign policy by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, special remarks by human-rights activist Bianca JaggerThat must be an error.
I think he's speaking on foreign and domestic scotch.
And if Bianca Jagger is a main speaker this musta been one hot ticket to get.

I would have paid this organization enormous amounts of money just not to be mentioned by them.

To anyone that knows the work of this "famous poet" they know it exists as a series of poems for men to read to women for the sake of arousing something other than their desire for world piece. KG and Rod Mckuen are the heros of sixty liberals that could not get a date and used grass to make them look good.
It is no surprise that Sir Teedy Kennedy of Chappaquick would like KG. Some poems, some booze and a failed college cheat, who cheats on his wife is your idol and the angel of death.

But Wendy Malik is a major f'n' talent.
Love that woman. Very funny. I didn't realize she was Arabic... I guess thinking about it for a microsecond would have clued me in.

Is there a worse poet than Khalil Gibran? It's pretty much what these folks deserve.
