See, I'm not in it for the color of someone's hat. I'm in it for what they believe and how they want to govern (or not govern).
If you ever read Democratic Underground, you'll find that they think all Republicans are totally stupid. Except Karl Rove. They all think Karl is some sort of evil genius who constantly outsmarts them and hoodwinks the American populace into voting for more Republicans. Karl Rove is the center of attention: they think Bush is dumb, Cheney is dumb but really greedy (the fact that he was CEO of a major corporation, as well as SecDef doesn't seem to mean anything), and all other Republicans are stupid and ignorant Religious nuts. Karl Rove, however, keeps the country electing Republicans by constantly scheming and planning -- apparently all by himself since no other Republican has a brain in their world. Rove even is responsible for tricking prominent liberal democrats into making verbal gaffes, or voting for things that turn out to be PR disasters.
Except that wasn't the case with Riordan. He was a tax-raising gun-grabbing big government liberal who hired only Democrats for staff. Riordan had the utmost contempt for the Republican Party and made no secret of it.
Amen, Brother! Nicely said.
Boxer and Feinstein will be their Senators as long as they wanna be."
With all due respect I believe that kind of opinion is hogwash!
Conservative Republicans and pro-lifers have done just as well and often better than liberal Republicans or pro-choice Republicans.
Those who preach that California is unattainably liberal are singing from yesterday's song book and don't realize that the dynamics that led to Democrat sweep of the state are already changing.
In its past California has gone from Democratic domination to Republican supremacy to Democratic edge to brief Republican supremacy and now back to Democratic domination.
i agree with your idea, let davies finish his term and ruin california,by then nobody will be willing to vote democrat.then we get arnold or condoleza!
Matt Fong (basically pro-choice) was considered "moderate" and lost. Tom Campbell (vehemently pro-choice) is actually a "liberal" Republican and lost. John Seymour (pro choice) was a moderate Wilson-style Republican who was appointed by Wilson to the U.S. Senate and could not hold on to his seat and lost.
The highest Republican vote-getter in the last election was not the liberal/moderate pro-choice GOP nominee for Lt. Governor Bruce McPherson which the news media and pundits had predicted.
It was actually candidate for State Controller, Tom McClintock, who is conservative and pro-life.
Well that is a bit disrespectful to the Bush administration. Do none of us here believe that Bush and Rove will have turned the economy around by the time of the next Gubernatorial election in 2006?
Of course they will have and Gray Davis will be the one taking all the credit.
Right now he is trying to force the legislature and the Controller (Steve Westley) to take the blame for tax increases.
What a coup it would be for him to bluff some of you into thinking it is better we sit on our hands and ignore his malfeasance and corruption for tactical reasons and end up having the tactic blow up in our face.
If you want to help Bush and Condoleeza or Arnold then send in a contribution to the recall campaign and watch the momentum that will come to what has been a moribund GOP - history is about to be made and it will send a shockwave through the national political scene.
I don't think a clear message was ever articulated to voters as to who Simon was except what Gray Davis told them - a lying, cheating, under investigation/criminal inquiry etc... scummy businessman.
I don't think that is an accurate portrayl of Simon but since he never effectively delivered a clear message of either who he was or why voters should reject Davis or why he is a better option than Davis... well the voters decided to stick with the devil they knew - Gray Davis.
Status Report for Day 1:
Very encouraging. Representatives of the Recall Committee were on several talk radio stations today. These stations and their hosts responded to a call put out on Good Friday for 50,000+ signatures to be collected this week.
Recall Advisor Sal Russo sent out a 2 page political tip sheet - The RMR Insider - detailing Davis' disastrous poll numbers and the near-inevitability that Davis will be recalled.
Russo says that Davis camp dismissal of power of the recall movement in the state prompts rampant rumors that the Davis Camp is seeking out Iraqi Information Minister "Baghdad Bob" to come assume the new role of Davis campaign spokesperson.
RMR Insider was emailed and FAXed to thousands of press outlets in California, Washington DC and other key political individuals & organizations and media bureaus.
