Here is "travelgirl's" comment on the Arkansas board.
"By popular request of the Freepers at the last meeting, here is Jasmine's story. As this is her first article, I'm sure she would appreciate comments. If you have any questions, please e-mail her, she will be glad to answer."
I did not want to post Jasmine's email address publicly, but she will see the comments made here and if anyone would like to email her, FReepmail either me or travelgirl and we will give you the address.

Jasmine's Story: A Kuwaiti Girl's Memories of Liberation Excerpt: Twelve years have passed since the Kuwait liberation, Im 24 years old, I graduated from college in the States and just got married. I am glad I lived until I saw Saddam loose his power and is, hopefully, dead. Again Thanks To all Americans. I also would like to congratulate the Iraqi people and lets all appreciate the freedom we have.

What a moving story!
Thanks for posting this.

My mom, my two brothers and I all went to live in the basement of my aunts house with seven other Kuwaiti families.
Iraqis were breaking doors to get men between 16 and above (military age). I remember my mom hiding my two brothers in the water tanks, and they used to stay there for hours. She was afraid the Iraqis would take them and she wouldnt be able to see her sons after that. It was September around 4 pm I was looking through the only window we had in the basement. I saw two Iraqis carrying a black trash bag ring the bell of our neighbors house. Our neighbors, unfortunately, had left their house so the Iraqis placed the bag in front of the door and left. Thank you Libby for posting this and I too am glad that Jasmine was able to see the end of Saddam.
I also couldn't help be reminded of the book .. The Diary of Anne Frank ..
I will never understand how people can be so evil

I know the "bold" is a typo, but I find it touching and think the poor gentleman did indeed have a bold head to suffer so for his family. Thank you, Jasmine, for telling your story. You are a very fine and brave young woman.

What a truly inspiring story. It's a shame that the libs have turned a deaf ear to stories such as Jamine's. Instead, they harp on the theme that we have no business interfering with the Iraqis or their government.
As more stories such as Jasmine's come to light about the torture and unjust imprisonment of Iraqis and Kuwaitis, our presence in Iraq will be vindicated.
May God bless Jasmine and her family abundantly for her courage and for bringing her story to us.

Oh, man! What a heartbreaking story. And I'm sure there are many more like it. I just pray that Jasmine will be able to live the rest of her life in freedom, and I'm proud that Americans do so much to make it possible.

thanks for the ping, BG.
i think this is healthy reading for us who grew up in the states... a close friend of mine was a young teen during the killing fields times in cambodia. she and her family escaped the communists to australia, then eventually here.
accounts like this help me keep my perspective in focus.

I wish every FReeper could have heard Jasmine's story at that meeting.
What is written here is only the tip of the iceberg. To actually hear this beautiful child tell this brought tears to everyone's eyes. I wish I had taped recorded her story.

Thank you! I have read several stories of the horrors that were done to Kuwaitis. Amazing that such accounts rarely reach the international media, but then a great many media sources supported Saddam this last time.
I read an account here that 18 Kuwaitis from the Gulf War were found in Baghdad, and let's pray we can find more. That was an incredibly evil regime, and now the Saddam family are gone.
Best wishes to Jasmine, and may her story be told louder. Sometimes we Americans like to be appreciated. We've sent our sons and daughters twice, along with our faithful allies, to clean up that mess.
