Well, to continue with your line of thought then, Battle Axe..then wouldn't it be just as logical to have bought an equivalent life ins policy on himself? After all, a new mother and baby would have an even harder time supporting herself and her newborn if the Dad suddenly died. And that would be a heck of a lot more expensive than buying child care. But as i recall, he took out a $250k on her and a $50k policy on himself, and that inequity is dramatic, so i think your line of reasoning could backfire. But who knows what straws his defense atty is going to grasp at?

You are right! We used to only have life insurance on my husband. Once we had three kids we got equal insurance on me, for example, if either of us dies the house mortgage is paid for by insurance. He has more insurance on himself at work. We would never take more insurance out on me. That is fishy that Scott got $250 on his wife and much less on himself. Doesn't make sense..... Unless.....

I was rereading some of the information on lacipeterson.com and wondered if it was ever made public how much the couple grossed from selling "The Shack" in SLO. I had also read somewhere the past four months that they had declared bankruptcy...but I didnt see it on that long narrative. Can anyone recall hearing this, or perhaps I heard it on some talk show.

Also, the title of the thread was what was reported on KCAL9 news yesterday on the first report...later they clarified he was arrested in San Diego...I think its pretty interesting he was in custody four hours (11am to 3pm) before the news broke. If it were in Orange County, I am sure Sheriff Carona would call his own press conference.

Hey, MM! Can I just jump in here for a minute? It was my understanding that the insurance policy was double indemnity, which would mean, if she died as the result of a boating "accident" while pregnant, old Scottie would have received $500k in lieu of $250k. I also understood that the policy was taken out in late summer (July, August). My theory, FWIW, is that he was going for getting her out on the boat alive on a day when there were no witnesses, push her overboard, making sure she drowned, and bingo, no Laci, no baby, just a free Scottie who was $500k richer, not to mention her share of the estate.
