When Is a School Shooting Not a “School Shooting”?

When Is a School Shooting Not a “School Shooting”? Why Are the Gun-Grabbers Making Criminals Out to Be Innocent

LAKEWAY, TEXAS, April 18, 2003-The Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) is appalled, but not surprised, that the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (formerly Handgun Control Inc. or HCI) would yet again use another instance of criminal violence to further their agenda against all law-abiding gun owners. The former HCI released their statements after a gang-related shooting occurred in a New Orleans high school.

The former HCI totally ignores the fact that this was not a “school shooting”, but rather part of an on-going gang war that was brought into the school. A school, which, it was reported, has metal detectors to prevent guns from coming in the school. The criminal that did the shooting was already breaking the law by having that gun. The criminal may have also figured that this would be the only place that his intended victim would be unarmed. Should there be more laws for criminals to break, which make it harder for law-abiding citizens to own a firearm to protect themselves?

It is outrageous that women are being murdered and mutilated in the Baton Rouge, LA area by a serial murderer while the former HCI is proposing stricter gun laws, which would keep innocent women from protecting themselves.

Tiffany Theriot, from the Baton Rouge area said she is tired of being afraid. "If more women openly carried [weapons], there'd be a lot less victims in this town," she said. "The only way to not be scared is to be ready," according to “The South End” a student newspaper at Wayne State University.

Interestingly enough, Donna Dees-Thomases, the founder of the so-called “Million” Mom March (MMM), and native of New Orleans, insulted all of Louisiana by stating, “Louisiana needs to move into the 21st century in gun laws," according to the former HCI press release.

What the former HCI and the so-called “MMM” fail to make known when they make their claims of numbers of children and teens killed by guns, is that almost all of those killings are intentional criminal acts. What the gun-grabbers are talking about are criminals, not innocent little children. Suicide is a criminal act, and over half of the gun deaths are suicides, and not preventable merely by taking away one tool. Nearly all the rest of the children and teen firearm deaths are intentional criminal acts.

Sadly, there are some accidental firearm fatalities, but the number has been dropping for two decades now, due mostly to firearms education programs. Annually, there are about 20 accidental firearm fatalities for children, 15 yrs and younger. Even one accidental firearm death is one too many, but the gun-grabbers are not talking about accidents. The gun-grabbers are talking about people who are intentionally, criminally, pointing a gun at another person and pulling the trigger. Having the criminal state, “I never meant to kill him!” does not count as an accident, and sounds more like a plea for leniency.

The former HCI is using this gang-related shooting to push for the continuance of the “Assault Weapons Ban”.

Here are some facts that the gun-grabbers like to ignore-“Assault weapons” were used in less than 2% of crimes involving firearms and 0.25% of all violent crime. (Gary Kleck, “Targeting Guns” 1997) -Even weapons misclassified as “assault weapons” are used in less than 1% of all homicides. (FBI Uniform Crime Statistics, 1993) -In 1994 (before the ban), you were 11 times more likely to be beaten to death than to be killed by an “assault weapon”. (FBI Uniform Crime Statistics, 1994)

It is a sorry state of affairs when a group has to rely on criminal activity to further its agenda.

The Second Amendment Sisters, Inc. (SAS) is a grassroots organization founded in late 1999. SAS is made up entirely of volunteers dedicated to preserving the Basic Human Right to Self-Defense, as recognized by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Took me a long time to write this one! So much I would have loved to write in response to their press release.

Cops interviewing one of the pers

cop: Why did you pick a school to kill the guy?
perp: Because there are no guns allowed in school. He couldn't shoot back.
cop: He did have a gun.
perp: Well he wasn't supposed to.

and so it goes.

Thank you!

I just got a note from Sarah Brady!
It states, "A horrible school shooting occurred this Monday, when a gunman with an AK-47 automatic rifle shot and killed a student and wounded three others at a New Orleans high school. Sadly, the death of a child like this is all too common in Louisiana..."

That is SOOOO maddening!

I suppose you could add one more lie to the mix. The Morons are lying when they claimed it was an AK-47 Assault Weapon.

It was a SKS semi-automatic.

I read that in a follow up article here somewhere. I think it was the article that mentioned the pistol dropping out of the dead guy's clothing when he was on the autopsy table.

Meanwhile, in Austin, a 16-year-old Reagan H.S. student stabbed a female student to death in a classroom. But the Knife Control Advocates have not received any air time or news interviews to promote their views.

Thanks Ray!
It's a good thing I finished it when I did.
If I had gotten Sarah Brady's plea for more money because Louisiana is a horrid place before, I don't think I could have contained myself!
She even said "...the death of a child like this..."
EXCUSE ME?
That "child" had a 9mm gun in his pocket!

It was a SKS semi-automatic.

That's actually better for the gun grabbers. They can argue that it's "the same as an SKS", and yell about a "loophole" in the ban" That means they will add language to ban the SKS to the renewed AWB, and probably a bunch of other semi-auto firearms, including the M-1 Garand, since it's function and appearance is no different than those of the SKS, other than being a mite more powerfull of course. Might even ban all semi-auto rifles other than .22s. They'd ban the .22s too if they thought they could get away with it. (A "gateway gun" perhaps? who knows?)

the same as an SKS",

Oops, meant "same as an AK-47". That's what happens when you try to post and carry on a conversation at the same time.
