[history]
April 17, 2003 -- HOURS before he was to die in Iraq, David Bloom had a kind of premonition.
The sight of battle had changed him, hardened him. The smell of death rattled the perpetually upbeat NBC correspondent in ways he never foresaw.

kattracks, thanks so much for this.
My sister watched a segment about an impromptu memorial service held in Iraq in the unit that David Bloom was traveling with. The troops were memorializing 2 soldiers who had died and David Bloom. They had erected a memorial of sorts, with the boots, flack jacket and helmet of each of the soldiers. The camera went in for a close-up. Then it panned over to David Bloom's stuff: his boots, jacket, helmet---and leaning up against them was a small book.
"That book looks familiar!" my sister thought.
The camera came in for a close-up. "My Utmost for His Highest"--a serious and thoughtful daily devotional book--certainly not "devotionals-lite."
Her heart just soared when she saw this.
Your posting of this article confirms that her (and my) hopes were not misplaced. Thanks so much for posting this. I've already sent it to my sister.
And may God somehow, someway, grant His grace and comfort to David's wife, daughters, and parents. He was one of the good guys, and we sure could use more of THEM in that industry...

Awesome...that is one of the best things I've read here in a long time. My prayer is that David Bloom's testimony, through his death, will be used to "draw men unto Him". Though his death seems senseless, I think of the impact Payne Stewart's death had within the tight-knit professional golf community. I pray that his colleagues will realize that there is more to this life than interviews and stories.

MSNBC showed a portion of his funeral, and his priest relayed a story "David and I spent all day Friday together, the day before he left. 'I'm ready,' he said,' 'ready to go Home, if the Lord calls you?' I asked,' 'yeah,' David replied, 'but I'm afraid,' 'afraid that He's going to call you Home?' I asked?' And David said 'Yeah...I'm afraid He's going to call me Home on this trip...but I'm ready.' "
Really moving...

Sean Hannity just played that, too. I pray that many many people are blessed by his testimony.
I also pray for his young wife and children.
