So far you've said very little, so that is fair.

I stand corrected. They sure seem to be non-union, because they all seem to enjoy their work!

Not likely.

Yep. Southwest pilots are represented by the SWAPA. Flight attendants by TWUA, at least around here. Mechanics are union too, but I think they farm out a bunch of stuff to third parties that might not be... I don't know what union but you can look here:
http://www.iflyswa.com/careers/mxapmech.html

if you want to see it yourself. Scroll to the bottom where it says "Union position. Union dues required."

Unions have air transport sewn up. Seriously.

I don't know Jet Blue. I'd be surprised if their pilots aren't unionized...

Mr. Carty should be ashamed. How about an equal sacrifice across the board? Go and do the math and see for yourself what each employee still left with a job is giving up.

Carty's giving up 30% of his salary, and forgoing any bonuses.

Actually, no other airline CEO has resigned, including those from UAL and USAir.

Carty shouldn't either.

Bankruptcy has its good points, too. In my opinion, the "deal" AMR has spun, is worse for the smaller people than what I imagine would have happened before a judge.

Dinner break...after I go and throw up from what this day has brought. I've had a lot to deal with lately, but this is just too much. It feels just like the CHADS all over again.

If you really want to have some fun at a casino, when you are winning and drunk yell out "STEEWARRRDDEESSSS!" for drinks every 5 minutes.I saw this at the Hard Rock with my buddies. Funniest thing I have seen at a casino.

Call him.

For what reason? I know him socially.

I wouldn't call him anyway, except to encourage him.

I hate to say this, but you are the moron. You ignored what was reccomended by the robot, and the Algore commission. The airlines spent millions lobbying Congress to prevent the implementation of these reccomendations, especially the profiling part. If I'm the "moron" then you are the fool.

To you and Dead Dog: May I correct your impression about Flight Attendants aka Stewardesses.

I used to fly for United many years ago. The stews are there predominantly for one main reason: evacuation of the plane during an emergency. Safety. It is they, not the pilots, who get passengers off the plane (before it bursts into flames).

The food, the drinks - purely PR stuff. Food is a tranqualizer. It quiets the "white knucklers". It is the stews who "meet and greet" and are responsible for the safety information. (Safety again).

Before you denigrate these employees, reflect back upon the noble efforts of the flight attendants on 9/11 and think again, my friends.

I believe Southwest is an example that leadership really does matter. I don't believe that is taught in business schools.

My cousin is an American Airline Stewardess.

One of my favorite scenes from the old Bob Newhart Show (circa c.1973):

Womanizing dentist Jerry, one of Bob's friends from his office, meets Bob's neighbor Howard, a pilot. Jerry asks Howard, "Is it true what they say about stewardesses?"

Howard says, "I don't know. I've never dated one."

Jerry, understandingly says, "Ohhh. Company policy, huh?"

Howard: "No, theirs."

No, but you can bet that....ehhhh, it's too easy.

The only effect of the flight attendants' action will be that a bankruptcy judge will unilaterally revise their pay, instead of their having a chance to negotiate the terms and conditions.

Yep ! Not good. D/FW is their headquarters. Not what we needed at this time too. Sigh . . .

I heard that the Pilots and Mechanics Unions passed their concessions, and also that there was a possibility that the Attendants might try for a re-vote.

United Airlines CEO Resigns
United Airlines replaced embattled chairman and chief executive James Goodwin on Sunday with board member John Creighton, less than two weeks after Goodwin's warning that the carrier could ``perish'' next year sent its stock into a tailspin.

The parent company of the nation's second-biggest airline, UAL Corp., said Goodwin had resigned and released a statement quoting him as saying it was ``the right time for a new leader.''

Does it really matter what the airlines supposedly lobbied for? Should the government bear the responsibility to do their job of protecting the citizens of this country no matter who lobbies for what.

Given that the other two unions have swallowed the bitter pill, I think it again raises the question of women as emotional creatures.
