USS Constellation Heading Home
Aircraft Carrier Scheduled To Be Decommissioned
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego-based USS Constellation may soon be coming home, 10News reported.
The aircraft carrier has played a major role in air strikes during the war with Iraq.
However, with the focus in the region shifting, the commander of Naval forces said the carrier will be headed home soon.
San Diegan 2nd Class Petty Officer Ryan Duron is stationed aboard the Constellation.
His wife, Alicia, said she can't wait for him to come home and see his new baby girl. "I just picture him holding his little girl and shedding a couple of tears. I just can't wait," Duron said.
When the Constellation returns to San Diego it will be for the last time, according to 10News.
The aircraft carrier is scheduled to be decommissioned.
Constellation's crew consists of more than 5,000 Sailors and Marines.

What a magnificent ship !! I had the honor of landing and operating aboard Connie during Tonkin Gulf Yacht-Club Days. Vadm. D. C. Richardson was ComCarDiv5/CTF-77; and Adm. Johnnie Hyland, a very dear friend, was ComSeventhFlt. I was privileged to serve as Hyland's on-site rep and as the strike coordinator for the Rolling Thunder Alfa strikes; operating out of C7FDetCharlie @ 7AF HG,TSN.
Years later, when I used to drive by Connie at NAS North Island, tears would come to my eyes for all the heartache and hallowed memories of our comrades, tragically lost during the peak years of the conflict.
Through it all, Connie was a dear Lady and a class-act. I shall miss her very much, and I am so happy she goes out with such a magnificent flourish to her superb heritage.
With deep devotion to a incredible lady !!! DKP
