The National Republican Congressional Committee has mailed a survey to a selected list of grass-roots Republicans seeking opinions on "issues of greatest concern" so that the party can be strengthened "by getting more Americans involved."
Of course, it is really a fund-raiser (send your "most generous contribution"), but it is artfully designed to look like authentic market research using catchphrases such as "registered survey number," "classified document" and "data entry control number for office use only."
Whoever produced the survey must have the same worldview as Inside-the-Beltway policy wonks whose sensitivity to public opinion is bounded by the Washington Post in the morning and Dan Rather in the evening. They are clueless about what grass-roots Americans think.
Out of 54 detailed questions sorted into 13 different issues, there is only one about border security and immigration. That lone question appears at the bottom of the page titled Foreign Affairs. There is a section on homeland security, but it contains no mention of border security or immigration.
I'm going to help the Republican Congressional Committee by providing a list of 20 questions for which the answers would be helpful to party leaders.
1. Do you favor President George W. Bush's plan to give amnesty to undocumented aliens, putting people who violate our laws in line ahead of those who lawfully apply for entry?
2. Do you favor the repeal of Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's Diversity Visa Lottery, which admits 50,000 aliens per year, mostly from non-Western countries, including countries that sponsor terrorism?
3. Should the U.S. State Department stop issuing visas in countries that sponsor terrorism?
4. Do you favor closing our borders to undocumented aliens, illegal drugs and contagious diseases by whatever means necessary, including electronic fences and National Guard troops?
5. Do you favor requiring visual inspection of the contents of at least 50 percent of trucks entering the United States from Mexico and Canada, instead of the current 1 percent to 2 percent?
6. Do you favor prohibiting the State Department from negotiating a plan with Mexico to give Social Security benefits to undocumented aliens?
7. Do you favor repealing the federal requirement that hospitals must give free medical care, including scarce organ transplants, to undocumented aliens, an unfunded mandate that is bankrupting many hospitals and increasing the price of medical care to U.S. citizens?
8. Do you favor cutting off federal funding to state universities that give lower in-state tuition to undocumented aliens in violation of current federal law, or that refuse to cooperate with the foreign student tracking system?
9. Will you vote to revoke the citizenship of naturalized citizens who betray their oath of U.S. citizenship by claiming dual citizenship with their native country?
10. Do you favor stopping the issuance of driver's licenses to undocumented aliens since many of the 9/11 hijackers boarded the fatal planes by showing their driver's licenses?
11. Do you favor penalties for local public officials who refuse to cooperate with immigration officials in identifying undocumented aliens?
12. Do you favor prohibiting government agencies from accepting foreign-issued identity cards, such as Mexico's matricula consular, as acceptable identification?
13. Do you favor strict health screening of foreigners entering the United States in order to stop the extraordinary rise in cases of tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis B, intestinal parasites, Chagas' disease, West Nile virus and SARS?
14. Do you favor stopping the racket of smuggling pregnant aliens into the United States so they can give birth to their babies in the United States, thereby making their children immediately eligible for citizenship and welfare?
15. Do you favor a timeout on immigration and visas until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has a functioning computer system to track aliens, not U.S. citizens, through smart identification cards?
16. Do you favor rescinding Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13166 requiring anyone who receives federal funds, such as doctors and hospitals, to provide their services in foreign languages?
17. Do you favor abolishing federal requirements to provide foreign-language ballots, since the ability to speak, read and write basic English is a requirement to become a naturalized U.S. citizen and only citizens are eligible to vote?
18. Do you favor a general policy of drawing a bright line of difference between U.S. citizens and aliens so that law-abiding U.S. citizens are not treated like potential terrorists or hijackers?
19. Do you favor a Republican Party policy of rejecting political contributions from individuals and corporations that hire undocumented aliens?
20. Is the reason why questions about border security and immigration were omitted from the Republican survey because our leaders don't want to know the answers?
We have the same problem in our area with that, but most of those using food stamps are legal immigrants from Europe... places like Bosnia mostly. I guess our government has too much money burning holes in its pockets they need to give away.
But what you're experiencing with illegals hasn't hit us too bad yet, though I don't need a crystal ball to know it's coming, and it angers the heck out of me nothing is being done to stop it. Our kids and grandkids are going to pay dearly for the government's incompetence in the future.
Without a doubt but trying explaining this to Karl Rove. I really believe there is something much more sinister at work here. Bush and Rove know the score on immigration.
It's not important what politicians say. They will say anything to get elected. It's what they DO. And their actions speak VOLUMES about their INTENTIONS. I agree with those that think the endgame of the Political/Industrial Beltway Elite is a sovereign-less America without borders. Unless by way of divine intervention some new political force steps into the equation and alters our destiny the Fabled "Middle Class America will be a thing of the past in a few short decades. I hope I'm not around to see it.
That is the biggest tragedy of this whole sorry mess. Future generations will curse Our generation for destroying the American Dream for a quick buck and fleeting power with no thought or care about the next generations of Americans.
I'm not afraid to talk about it. Taken nasty heat for it too. Been called a KKK member, Nazi, and various other vile, nasty terms, but never a quote of something I have said that's wrong, no quotes......Ever.
That's probably why I am confident, that many silently support my position, as with others that are not afraid to speak up. I refuse to play that game, and the unjustified grief and slander that some have directed my way is truly offensive and very suspect I might add.
I think you have hit the nail on the head, my friend!
President Bush is NOT stupid. On the contrary, he knows exactly what he is doing. He is leading this country to a one world government... interim step being a united "western hemisphere". What do you think he and the other attendees at such "conferences" as Bilderberg and Bohemian Grove are discussing?.... They are discussing GLOBALIZATION and have been for years. They all assume it is enevivitable and good for America.
My own thoughts are that Globablization would be good for America if all the rest of the world thought and behaved towards individual freedoms as we historically have.... but they DON'T. And as it has been already shown in the recent United Nations activities, these other nations can easily vote down anything America proposses. Will our traditional values of Individual freedom last long in a Global Government? Or will all we have fought so long and hard for these last 230 years be distroyed by the power-hungry petty dictators of 3rd world nations who will out vote us in the end and turn the entire world into what they are now... a 3rd world. If you cringe at supporting the "half ??" of the USA who is poor with your tax dollars.... how will you like supporting the "90-something ?? percent" of the whole world who is poor with your hard earned taxed dollars? It will take more than 40% of your income to do so... it will take ALL of your income to do it!
I (reluctantly) voted for Bush in the election, kept my mouth shut about my fears so that there would be no chance these fears would cause someone else to not vote for Bush... and I will vote for him again. I have no choice.. the alternative (a liberal Dem.) is too horrible to think about. But the fears are coming true.
If Bush wanted to show his concern for Mexican-Americans and gain their support for the election, then he is smart enough to think of a way to show that concern toward the legal immigrants... for it is the legals who make invaluable contributions to a growing nation. (a great deal of the Cuban-American) population is tribute to that).
Is there not anyone who will lead this county towards a secure future for our grandchildren's freedom? Or do we just give in to Globalization and a One World Government as Bush already has?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
That is what makes me think it is not ignorance - it is an agenda that is being carried out.
I don't contribute to the NRP, but tell them that I'd rather pick and choose my candidates.
It's not quite time - we will wake up and see it soon enough.
I believe it is a concerted effort to destroy this nation, as a nation.
If you pay attention to things you will begin to see things evolve - from just a little article here -a phrase here, etc.
President Bush made 20,000 foreign nationals serving in our armed forces citizens in one day. Now who can argue with that? Then we began to see a few posts or just thoughts in articles that maybe we should get the illegal men into our armed forces. Then a article on illegals mentioned they were needed for our economy and 'our armed services'. During the war, I read three or four articles about soldiers who were immigrants or soldiers with Spanish surnames, compared to only a couple of others. Now granted I am very sensitive to this and I don't have TV - 99.9% of my news comes from here - --- This makes me think there may be a plan to make our ' American professional army' more of a 'professional army' with no allegience to this country - only to the President or government. This is frightening - but we'll see.
I realize that foreign nationals in our armed services is nothing new - my husband and brother served with some and my roommate dated a Canadian (late 50's), it just seems like it is popping up more and more.
What exactly they expect to gain out of destroying the greatest nation in the world I haven't figured out. Maybe both parties are getting some short-term monetary benefits out of the cheap labor, but their kids, and ours are going to pay big-time for the selfish greed.
At first, I thought it was all for money. For some politicians, I think it still is. I mean they are so addicted to the money or they are bought and paid for and go along. Sadly for many, it is power. I think they see themselves as world movers and shakers and possible world leaders and that is their agenda. Some will be fooled and are being used but for some, it will happen.
It would be hard for America to be brought into a borderless world without destroying so much of the country first. The middle class will have to go. The wealthy, for the most part, can and will survive. It makes little difference to the poor - they life won't chang that much. The middle class, have had to work and sometimes fight for what they have. They are a cocky bunch of people and they need to be brought down to where just providing necessities is the most important thing on their minds. You do that by taxing them to the point they cannot even maintain their lifestyle, let along improve it. You also make sure the jobs are either shipped out or taken by illegals. That way they can be handled.
The government has pitted Americans against each other - either by race, income, work (blue collar vs white collar - dockers and tasselled loafers), age, etc. A country divided can be controlled and they are busy keeping us divided and so many are falling for it and actually helping to further their cause. .
Here's my prediction for what it's worth... if that sort of union future is currently in process of becoming reality, and I don't doubt it is, in the end it will have to be accomplished by force. The way it's being foisted upon us, the frog in the pot analogy, a little at a time, even that will eventually backfire when Americans find their living standards so eroded they can't live a middle-class life anymore. A Pat Buchanan style politician will emerge to stop and reverse it, at which the point the establishment will do everything they can to keep him out of power. Just look at what what they're trying to do to Tom Tancredo, who only suggests we should control the borders.
At present course, the future of the US has the potential to get very ugly.
The myth is that these nanny-employers are Republicans. They aren't. The rich nanny-employers are Democrats. There aren't many rich Republicans, unless you count Rockefeller Republicans, RINOs.
I tend to agree, as this invasion of our borders is no mistake, or accident. If it isn't a conspiracy, nothing is.
Sometimes I feel that the U.S. is one big Corporation and the President is actually the CEO..... They'll put us all on a level playing field if it means draging the U.S. into a ditch, that's why every thing you buy isn't made here, and our country is flooded with millions of illegal aliens that continue to enter unabated.
Well, just because NAFTA is a failure mostly for America, but for the Mexican people also, hasn't caused our leaders to make any changes. In fact, there are going forward with the unsafe truckers, the 'professionals' being able to come here. So just because it is and will be a failure - will make little difference. It is a big success for the corporations and for the politicians they are funding.
Here's my prediction for what it's worth... if that sort of union future is currently in process of becoming reality, and I don't doubt it is, in the end it will have to be accomplished by force.
Part of it will, of course, but first they are going to lower the odds and try to break the middle income people and put us all in the situation we are just struggling to stay alive. Couple that with all the new so-called 'Homeland Security' which gives them inbelieveable powers over us. Also, that is part of my concern about the little news blips and posts here of having or needing foreign nationals in the military. An army with no allegiance or love for America or its people.
The way it's being foisted upon us, the frog in the pot analogy, a little at a time, even that will eventually backfire when Americans find their living standards so eroded they can't live a middle-class life anymore.
That is happening already. It is just that so many are living off their credit cards or home equity. Workers laid off because of NAFTA get to draw unemployment for, I believe, two years - so the impact is not immediately felt. Some because Mom has gone to work, Dad has a second job, serious cutbacks in standard of living, and they are managing to keep their head above water - but are not being able to achieve any sense of financial security.
When the truckers begin coming, another huge American industry will be negatively impacted. The politicians with their henchmen have been very good at neutralizing any sympathy or identity with so many workers that have lost their jobs - by their rants of UNION THUGS!! The attitude has been " so what, they are only UNION THUGS that are paid more than they are worth (I on the other hand am worth a lot)". I am not a union person, but to replace tax-paying, self-supporting, contributing union workers with illegals. Illegals whose contribution is only to the bottom line of corporations and politicians pocketbooks, increased insurance, increased medical care, increased law enforcement costs, increased strain on our infrastructure, increased educational expenses, increased burden to taxpayers, etc. is so destructive.
I hope I am here to listen to the reasoning when the Mexican 'professionals' are able to come here and take all the medical jobs, the legal jobs, teachers jobs. By that time, the illegal children will have their paid college education and will be some stiff competition for the ones who feel so secure right now. Couple that with H1B and it is a recipe for disaster.
A Pat Buchanan style politician will emerge to stop and reverse it,
From your lips to God's ear
at which the point the establishment will do everything they can to keep him out of power. Just look at what what they're trying to do to Tom Tancredo, who only suggests we should control the borders.
That is happening already - the reaction anytime Pat Buchanan is mentioned is just vicious. AS for Tancredo, you know they have probably looked up everything on him they can find - down to his kindergarten records and he must be the cleanest man in WAshington. They can't use his lack of Vietnam service against him - people who live in glass houses, and all that.
At present course, the future of the US has the potential to get very ugly.
I agree.
