I don't know what to make of the fact that the CIA led the escape plan to get him out of Denmark while charges were pending. Anyone know more?

On general principles I don't mind if Iraq IS NOT lead by the "CIA Candidate".
If he was involved in gas attacks against his own folks, why is the US Government supporting him?
Well, guess it doesn't matter much anymore.

Tearing down a corrupt regime is the easy part.
Replacing it with something stable and wholesome is generally much more difficult.

What is with the CIA? We do not need idiots like that running IRAQ. They WILL turn against us or alienate the people. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise.

This is a strange story. Where was he assassinated? Under what circumstances? The first sentence makes the statement, and the rest of the story is background. There is something missing here.

My guess is that the CIA sprang him from Denmark and then used his knowledge about the Iraqi order of battle, bunker locations, ammo dumps, etc. until they had gottem everything useful from him. Then they made sure that he had an unfortunate "accident" The scumbag served his own country best by dying for it.

If true, I certainly wouldn't weep for this guy. There is some pretty strong evidence that Kharazji (or however his name is spelled) WAS involved in the massacre of Kurds at Halabja and other places. Even if this guy was NOT a mass murderer, he enjoyed the benefits of Saddam's regime. My guess is that he did not rise to his position of prominence within Iraq's military due to dis daring victories over Iran, but his loyalty and toadying to Saddam.
The U.S. gov't should be leery of letting ex-Ba'athists share power in Iraq. Additionally, we should be wary of allowing power hungry types like Chalabi into power.

In late 2001, Danish police launched an investigation into allegations that General Khazraji had been involved in the poison gas attack on the Kurdish town of Halabjah in March 1988. I think this cannot possibly be true: the general escaped to the Kurds, who helped him to get to Jordan. If he had gassed them before that, they would've gouged out his eyes and quartered him instead.
This just tells you why we shuould stay away from the world courts.

I'm wondering if some of this isn't part of the Syrian Lebanonization of Iraq strategy, to do through assassination what the killing of Bashir Gemayel did in Lebanon.
