[history]
Despite today's grim talk of `jobless recovery,' experts say several signs point to an upcoming shortage of talent in the workplace--and a bright future for job seekers.
Rising unemployment, a steady increase in the number of "discouraged workers" and constant talk of a "jobless recovery" have disheartened even the most determined job seeker in the past two years.

Sorry! I am all out of "HUMAN SHIELD" applications!

New York City has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, and they've been saying for years that the biggest problem the region faces is a shortage of skilled labor. The problem is that there simply aren't enough of the "right" kind of workers.
To: crv16
Yeah. The same "sources" for these statistics were used to justify the whole H-1B program. The sky is falling the big corps screamed to Congress - we are short people (rather than just recognizing the Y2K bump for what it was). So we let in 1/2 million H-1B's, and somehow laid off 1/2 million Americans. Now darn it, how did that happen?

"I predict that the person emptying your bedpan won't speak English"
That's been the case for 30 years, it's hard to find anyone in a hospital that can speak english.

I hope they're right this time. I've too many friends in that whirlpool. I only got out of it a few months ago after 18 months of swirling 'round the drain. And I don't want the libs to have a strong cudgel going into the election.

In a completely unrelated story, the Dow is back up over 8300. I figure that every hundred points over 9000 adds another Pubbie to congress in 2004.

...Belying the current battered state of the information technology sector, the fastest-growing occupation in the next decade is projected to be computer software engineers...
This is a load of crap. All the computer jobs they list are going to India faster than the speed of sound. There's pretty much nothing left in that sector already. I know at least a dozen former techies who are doing crummy jobs like retail after looking for months and months.
Sure, we have to get used to the fact that in America we are no longer going to produce buggywhips, shoes, textiles, hardgoods, machine tools, chips, computer hardware, software, services, helpdesk, automotive parts, and whatever the hell else you can think of.
We'll all just take turns delivering pizza to each other.

The wife recently attended a Commerce Department conference on industry in the U.S. They said openly that our taxes were paying for IT jobs' transfer to India, Russia, and Viet Nam. The official as much as said anyone studying ANYTHING about computers in this country right now is a fool.

This came from the mouth of a Federal Commerce official during an Off-i-ciale news conference. I've heard the tape. It's part of the Mrs. Warchild's job to attend such things. Dream on, botz.

Actually I'm more interedsted in why TAX dollars are funding the diaspora of jobs. Anyone?

Regarding your tagline... Heaven has just announced a huge need for virgins. They have had a huge influx of men needing 72 of them apeice.
To: Black Agnes
It's because the "government" doesn't have our best interests in mind. They're primary concern is bribes...I mean, campaign contributions. It has always been thus.
