I remember how impressed Shep was with this family right after he spoke with them on the phone when the capture became known. He mentioned their faith, all the prayer groups supporting them across the state, and their positive attitude.

The question is how? I caught the end of it. Were they disposing of munitions and something went off? Was it an attack? Grenade their Humvee hit?

I'm guilty of making fun of Shep a lot (clean fun -- "they spell in squiggles", heh), but I must admit, his enthusiasm is positively infectious at times (sometimes TOO infectious when breaking news is coming out but that's a whole 'nother 8 gazillion message tangent).

And it definitely sounds like something Saddamn and his cronies would think of while carting the stuff off to sell....

It would fit the pattern. The regime shot a missile at their own people and blamed us. The press believed 'Saddam', the village liar. The regime set up a 'downed US pilot' act at the river, complete with script and cast members shooting at the water, and the press believed the liars. The regime Fedayeen shot Iraqi children, their neighbors, and from the hospitals the left wing "aid" organizations believed the liars who blamed our forces..the press believed the "aid" liars. The regime sent a bus full of civilians onto a bridge rigged to explode - and the press said we were responsible when an escaping woman was shot by a regime member and thrown into the water to die. The Iraqi Info Min. lied daily...and the press treated him as a legitimate voice while criticizing our own generals. The freed Iraqi people, exacting justice on the worst offenders loot the UN, and Gov buildings, hospitals used as torture centers (and by Saddam's Baath Socialist Party)....and the press says the Iraqi people were better off under Saddam Hussein.

Who is most likely to have looted the antiquities? France, UN, Russia...every greedy pre-war exploiter of the Iraqi people...and who does the press blame? The freed Iraqi people....the innocents, and, of course the military, President Bush and Co. for not adhering to the left's inhumane set of priorities.

In the absence of any hard facts you have to assume mechanical failure...it's amazing we haven't had MORE go down from mechanical failure...not saying I know anything, just that that's always what I assume when I hear reports of servicemen/women killed and there's no explanation ready.

I'm a cat guy (yeah, I know, weird, but I want to have a cat to stroke like in a Bond flick once I get the World Domination thing down), but I love labs, and yes, he is very much like an excited puppy at times. And it's funny to see people with a bit more (okay I hate using the word but here it comes) "gravitas" on stage with him, because they tend to look at him...like a puppy, sometimes. :p

Although, like I said, I love labs, and I love lab puppies, even if they pee in squiggles...

I'm a cat guy

Ditto... We live in the city now, no more big dogs (and who wants a yapper after having real ones). We have a 17-pound "kitty" that rules the neighborhood, not just the house.

My favorite cat was a Man cat.I liked me a lot..I fed him and took care of every need..but he lounged in my husband's lap while my mate grinned and asked for waitress service 'cause he didn't want to disturb the cat!

Steve Harrigan looked a little exhausted last night... this morning. He had huge circles under his eyes, puffy, more than usual. Maybe they are partying too much in the newly liberated Baghdad, or could be too much excitement with nightly snipers.
