I can't quite believe the posts on this thread?
All of you who thought Putin, the old KGB commissar, was some kind of boy scout, raise your hands.
Russia is still in the hands of the KGB. There's been no change in who runs that backward mess of a country.

"Saddam WMD threatened Russia same way as US"

No, it didn't. Just think of this scenario: Maybe RUSSIA was trying to fully contol the Middle East oil, by supporting Saddam to acquire nukes, because Saddam was actually a Russian puppet. Of course Saddam was too much an egomaniac to realize that the Russians were manipulating him. But with this revelation, things are starting to fall in place and I don't like the picture.
To: RusIvan
I very doubt it sharing. I would like to see some more solid prof then some media report. Media reports are all we'll ever get. No intelligence agency is going to give us their raw data to examine.
Look, Russia is up to its eyeballs in Iraq. Most of it was perfectly permissible under the UN sanctions, etc. But, it's becoming obvious, even to the disinterested observer, that Russia also had a stake in preserving the Saddam Hussein regime. That's not a crime, but there's no use in denying it, either.

Russia and Iraq, now who would of thought that here?Russians aiding Iraqis against the British and Americans?
Shocked! I am shocked!

You ready believe any BS about Russia? Where the proves of all this. In my view it is just libel.
My comments were made with the assumption that the charges are factual. If they are not, then of course we shouldn't take action against them.
They did try to undermine us though and if there's truth to these charges and I say pootie-poot just stepped in it.

Russia isn't the great friend she's pretended to be--I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Looks like it just did.Exactly right! The fact that Putin was a former KGB and in recent months has consolidated the fractured pieces of the KGB back under his control in one agency spoke volumes. With Putin so strongly in the French corner on Iraq it was only a matter of time until the truth started leaking out.
Guess the Russians know all about Blair and his continued friendship with the clintons!
No wonder the United States didn't tell Blair until right before the airstrike on Saddam the first night! Makes sense now!

Good point... and all the paper that burned with the Finance Ministry the other day.

Just looking at the 2001 list of barrels of oil imported into the US by country.
We are not really importing Russian Oil in any signifigant way now. However... We can switch Iraq with Saudi Arabia at the top of our list. Hell. let's just buy the whole lot from Iraq. Mexico, Nigeria, Venezuela, Canada, and the Saudis might be sad... but oh well.
We need to start rewarding our friends and punishing our enemies diplomatically, economically, and militarily.
If we bought from Iraq everything they could pump minus what they needed for domestic consumption... shielded them from their debts from France and Russia. This would be good.

Saddam regime? Heh heh:).
What Russia was interested in respect with Saddam is preservation of international law and role of UN.
Saddam or not Saddam.
Because now everyone can war on everyone. No law left in the world.

Ivan, just as with the Iraqi people, we have nothing againt the Russian people.
Russia is hurting their own people, by engaging in these power plays.
The Russian people and Russia would have been much better off, both politically and economically, if they had taken the hand of the US in friendship, which Bush offered them.
To: Rocko
An even stronger case is made for the disolving of spy-suseptible NATO, scraping the corrupt and ineffective UN, while the birth of a new Allied Federation should be ushered in.
The new Federation should of course be led by the United States and Britain, but also to include Japan and Australia.
France, and Germany should now be considered stealth rogue states, incapable of being trusted.
Russia?? What a cesspool of mercenary moral relativity and corruption. The hammer & sickle ought to have been replaced by the skull & bones.

Well, it didn't help much. In fact, the regime was gone in 22 days. No wonder Putin, Chirac and Schroeder were sorry to see Saddam go.

How about if we just ignore the UN mandates and buy cheap oil from Iraq for a few years? Build them up and give our economy a breather for a while (sell more SUV's too).

Because now everyone can war on everyone. No law left in the world. You may recall that the United States did not start this war... it started on September 11, 2001 with a sneak attack that left over 3,000 innocent Americans dead.
