Some of Iraq's top weapons scientists already have fled their country and are in Syria, from where they may seek political safety in France, administration sources said yesterday.

The officials said among those believed to have made it to Syria are Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash and Rihab Taha, both top scientists in Iraq's biological-weapons program. The administration sources said there are intelligence reports that one, or both, made it to Damascus.

France?

I suppose Chirac will shelter them too!

"One administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said there are intelligence reports that Iraqi weapons scientists are seeking safety in France."

It would be a very dangerous ploy, if France "harbors" identified suspects. At the time France is seriously threatened by the US, over an issue such as this, she will cave.

In fact I expect to hear proclamations by France, that such figures won't be welcomed into France.

They may be playing a game, over control of the EU, but I doubt they are up to a direct confontation.

It passed that point a few months ago.

Since they don't want the Mossad to give them .22 caliber cranial lead therapy like they gave Gerald Bull, I predict that the Iraqi scientists of death will stay in Syria.

Huda and Rihab went the wrong way...Syria is next.
If they are in Syria, then Syria will find them for us.
We will only ask for them once and probably not very nicely.

You can run but you can't hide.

We need another test case where there wasn't a long run of UN sanctions before we preempt -- just to remind Khamenei and Il-vis that we don't have to wait for a license.

"In fact I expect to hear proclamations by France, that such figures won't be welcomed into France. "

I think you're probably right, but it wouldn't surprise me if many found their way in despite France's public objections. I'd expect it could be managed to a degree diplomatically, perhaps just by dragging our feet in approving French visas into Iraq.

Any nation that has these Saddamite scientists of death must deliver them to us, or we will come take them.

That includes Syria and France.

No F***ing compromises on this.

Of course France, since they are our "allies" and opposed to any development of WMD by anyone (except themselves), they will refuse to accept the requests for asylum by these people.

Won't they?
