***My Letter to the Editor*** I am distressed that many in the Catholic Church and the Buarquasie are involved in political debates addressing secular things instead of concentrating on the ministry of addressing the spiritual well being of its members.
Recently I heard that Frank Fromherz, of the Peace and Justice Commission called on like minded Catholics to back the ecumenical group's request that "the International Criminal Court indict and prosecute President George W Bush.
I ask, why? And even if you think this should be done, why would this be a Catholic matter?
As the Catholic Church drifts from addressing the spiritual needs of its members to taking part in international politics and activism in the secular world it is asking for retribution and activism aimed at the dismantling of the Church itself.
I am believe that the Church is losing its way and forgetting that one of the primary purposes of the Church is to teach Right vs. Wrong, the recognition that there is evil in the world, and how to identify it so you will not stray from the path.

Fromherz is no longer an official representative of the RCC, if I read this correctly. So isn't the issue now moot?

bbunce@archdpdx.org Archdiocesan Justice and Peace Commission urges peace in Iraq
The Archdiocesan Justice and Peace Commission has issued a statement urging
the United States to avoid war with Iraq. The Commission noted that it raises its
collective voice as have other faith communities and the U. S. Bishops. Referring to the
November 13, 2002 statement of the American Bishops, the Justice and Peace
Commission asserts that lay Catholics "have the responsibility to transform the social
order in light of the Gospel, truly living the Gospel values that we profess."
The Commission emphasized, "People of many faiths are questioning the risk
and cost of a potential war that could easily result in unpredictable and unintended
consequences." The Commission noted that analysts "alert us to the possibility of high
numbers of civilian causalities, the loss of military personnel, more anti-American
sentiment around the world, increased terrorism, greater instability among nations and
more violent reactions in an already volatile Middle East."
The statement asks that national leaders "avoid the destructiveness of war by
finding a better way to resolve the very real threats involved in the conflict with Iraq."
Quoting from the prophet Micah, "in the days to come
they shall beat their swords into
plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; one nation shall not raise the sword
against another, nor shall they train for war again" (Micah 4:3).
The members of the Archdiocesan Justice and Peace Commission are: Sister
Kathy Carr, BVM, Corvallis, Father Patrick Donoghue, Sublimity, Edward Gallagher,
Portland, Sister Dodi Poelzer, MM, Eugene, Sabino Sardineta, Cornelius, Jim
Scherzinger, Portland, Estelle Sullivan, Gresham, Wendy Van Elverdinghe, Dallas,
Silvia Vazquez-Rios, Corvallis, and Gertrude L. Welsh, Portland.

Frank Fromherz, of the Peace and Justice Commission for the Portland Archdiocese in Oregon urged like-minded Catholics to back an ecumenical group's request that "the International Criminal Court indict and prosecute our own president as a war criminal."
LOL! Sure..
Go right ahead.
Matter of fact, those dogs over at the pentagon were in on it too! Try them all!
All that's left to do is for the much bally-hooed International Criminal Court to come and arrest them. Shouldn't be too hard for international big shots like the ICC, should it?
You will find the President in the big White House on Penn. Ave. The Pentagon isn't too awfully far off and it's easy to recognize.. Only big building there with 5 sides.
Now, tell me.. When can we expect you?
(LOL! LOL! LOL!)

Portland is becoming a hotbed for liberalism. Perhaps that is why this Catholic leader is calling for this. The left is so out of control in all areas that you never should be surprised at anything they say or do.

Stephen Brady, who leads a Catholic watchdog group in Illinois, characterizes Catholic peace and justice ministries across the nation as being "for the most part politically driven and left-leaning." I went to a Catholic high school, and I was subjected to quite a bit of leftist drivel. We had to take a class called Social Justice, which was a real hoot. I remember one session where the teacher brought in bags of cookies and candy, then divided us into two groups: the Wealthy Nations and the Poor Nations. There were only about five kids in the Wealthy Nations, and the remainder of the class (about 15-20 kids) were the Poor Nations. You can see what's coming, right? Yep, you guessed it: the Wealthy Nations had the run of most of the classroom and they got to stuff themselves with cookies and candy, while the Poor Nations were crammed into one corner of the classroom and only got one tiny cup of milk to share among themselves. She told us she wanted to show us how the wealthy nations (but mostly the U.S.) consumed more than their fair share of the world's wealth and resources.
This same nun also taught a class called Challenge Of Peace, in which she preached complete disarmament of all nuclear weapons. We had to view pictures of Hiroshima burn victims and read all kinds of disarmament propaganda. Naturally Ronald Reagan was made to look like a dangerous, demented warmonger. Harry Truman didn't fare too well either, if I recall correctly. Things got to the point where I was afraid she'd make us write a letter to Japan apologizing for dropping the bomb. Thank goodness she didn't, because I think my parents would have yanked me out of there in a hurry.
The real kicker is that these classes fell under the general heading of "Religion," yet the subject matter had precious little spiritual content.

The director of a U.S. Catholic archdiocese ministry wants to put President George W. Bush on trial for war crimes because of his Iraq policy. Apparently the phrase "war crime" has completely lost it's original meaning and can now mean just about anything. I guess I better be careful about giving my boss a dirty look when he criticizes my work or he might charge me with a "war crime".
