Were going to be having another Patriot Rally on Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati this Saturday!
No news on whether or not there will be any anti-war demonstrators to oppose us this week. Seems sort of useless at this point! LOL!
As it was last week, it will be carrying signs and flags and showing our support for the troops and President Bush for people downtown. We will have patriotic music too.
And again, as last time, bring all the signs, flags, and friend that you want. Just remember, as per Cincinnati rules, there may be no sticks or poles on the signs and no vulgarities on them.
We will be there from 12 pm-6 pm. If you have any questions, let me know!
Each week it has gotten more and more difficult for us to get a permit for Fountain Square. Not because of anyone else using it and certainly not because of any problems from our group. I am beginning to grow suspicious that someone in the Department of Public Services doesnt like our shows of patriotism (doesnt much surprise me with such a hardline Democrat in the Mayors office). To be honest, we almost didnt get a permit for this week because the person who approves them was purposely sitting on it! The permit was applied for on Monday of this week and its status has been checked on everyday. It wasnt until this morning that it was approved. Even a person working in that office, when called on Wednesday, said it was odd that it was taking so long. This has really not helped with organizing these rallies as I dont want to advertise if it turns out that we are not allowed to use the area.
Now with the type of permit that we must obtain, a spontaneous use permit, it is a rather quick approval (hence the use of the word spontaneous!). To give everyone an idea of how quick approval is usually given, the first one we applied for was approved the same day it was applied for while we were still at the city office!
Also, this week the person in charge of approving the permits attempted to put an unlawful restriction on the permit. She put on the permit that we were not allowed to have the music on after 3:00pm despite rules from the City Manager stating that music can be played until 12:30 AM(!). We are planning to play the music until we leave at 6:00 anyway. If someone doesnt like it, they can always ask us to turn it down or off. This restriction has not been on any of the previous two permits. Just more obstruction that is causing me to grow wary
I'll try to make it. Maybe these people will be there too! It should be a lot warmer!
