Ex-President Bill Clinton blamed Republicans for the boos he got Wednesday night at a birthday concert for country singer Willie Nelson at New York's Beacon Theater.
"The place went wild when [Clinton] was announced," reports Friday's New York Post Page Six. "There was loud booing and yelling."
Several callers to WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg Show who attended the event described the scene afterward. One quoted the ex-prez as complaining, "I see the Republicans are here tonight."
Another saw a fellow concertgoer who stood up, booed and gave Clinton the finger - prompting security to escort him out of the hall.
The Post confirmed Clinton's Republican comment, adding that he "seemed angered" at his reception.
The remark riled the crowd so much, said the paper, that when Nelson returned to the stage, he asked if everyone was all right.
The concert was taped for a Memorial Day airing on the USA network. "No way will they include the Clinton booing in the broadcast," predicted Malzberg.
Listen to Steve Malzberg in his new time slot on WABC, 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. ET weeknights, 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays.

Booing Clinton doesn't take any great effort or time.
I don't follow, if you're saying that somehow booing the rapist-traitor is "distracting" us from our big objectives.
That makes no sense.

"I was at Camden Yards when Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak. Unfortunately, Clinton was there too. EVERY time his ugly face was shown on the jumbo-tron, the WHOLE crowd (50,000 people) booed mightily. And this is Baltimore - a democrat stronghold."
Yup, I remember this happening as well. Keep in mind that most of the people that goto Orioles games are probably from the suburbs.
I'm sure Clintoon is much loved west of MLK and in most neighborhoods besides Federal Hill and Canton. Dear lord just look at the people in charge of this town! Two words: Patricia Jessamy.

But the thing is, a lot of those folks who voted for Clinton ... the ones in the middle, not the far lefties who would vote Democratic if they dug up the corpses of FDR and LBJ and ran them as a ticket ... ended up voting for Bush in 2000.
I touched on this in another thread. We like to think that it's all about issues and where people want to take the country, etc., but that's only true among the political junkies like who post here and at the lib counterparts.
I maintain that in presidential elections, way more often than not people vote for the candidate they like better.
In the last 50 years or so, the only time I can remember that the candidate who was less personally likeable won was Nixon over Humphrey in 1968. I'm not talking about their philosophies or stances on the issues or anything, I'm talking about pure, personal likeability.
People liked Ike better than Stevenson in '52 and '56, JFK better than Nixon in '60, LBJ better than Goldwater in '64, Nixon better than McGovern in '72, Carter better than Ford in '76, Reagan better than Carter in '80 and Mondale in '84 and G.W. Bush better than Gore in 2000.
They also ... and it's denying reality to claim otherwise ... liked Bill Clinton and Ross Perot better than G.H.W. Bush in '92 and Clinton better than Dole in '96. But you go back to '88, and they liked G.H.W. Bush better than Dukakis, who to this day still comes across with all the warmth of a robot.
And as a rule, I don't like feel-goodism ... but did that not have a whole lot to do with Reagan's '84 landslide. I mean, can you sit there with a straight face and tell me that everybody in all those Dem strongholds who went for Reagan in '84 were in total agreement with him philosophically and supported the direction he wanted to take the country? Highly doubtful. But he made the people feel good and they gravitated toward him.
I think G.W. Bush could very well have that same ability, although he'll never be the master Reagan was.
But to say it doesn't exist is to deny human nature. And our challenge is to explain ourselves and sell our program and sell why it is the best direction for this country, and make people feel good about supporting it. We don't need to sit there in judgment of people and act like a bunch of Mr. Spocks and deny human nature and try to expect people to operate strictly with their heads and with logic 365/24/7; we need to turn that basic human nature to feel good around and use it ourselves.

"He NEVER had a majority of the vote - you may want to be more cautious with that line of reasoning. WJC got more votes (popular) than his opponents, something W can't say.
They were both elected - let it go."
Of course, the constitution requires the use of the electoral college. So I'm not sure what your point is by saying that Gore got more votes. He didn't get them where they mattered.
Also, while Clintoon received more votes than his then-opponents, he did NOT receive more votes than George W. Bush, who received the third highest number of votes in U.S. history, behind Reagan ('84) and Gore in 2000.
Personally, I would not boo a former President. But, I can easily see why people would boo Clintoon. The man is a disgrace.

I'd have booed too if I'd been there. I'm not criticizing the booing. I'm just questioning whether it really serves any useful purpose for this place to go into meltdown every time Bubba comes into public or opens his mouth.
You can check my posting history, this isn't the first time I've expressed these opinions. There was a thread on here last year that went on and on and on about Chelsea getting her tongue pierced. I personally could care less if Chelsea got every piece of cartilage on her homely body pierced 12 times over, it's really irrelevant, but an awful lot of people here just absolutely came unglued, and I finally pinned some folks down and it was because they fear that the Dems and the liberal press and all their hanger-ons and conspiring to keep Chelsea's face and name in the press so that someday she can be president.
If someone sincerely believes that, more power to you. But I'm sorry, to me that is "Grassy Knoll" territory and a waste of time, bandwidth and brain cells.

Just trying to keep the facts straight - GWB never ran against WJC - so who got the most votes between them doesn't really matter. And, for those that want to keep on mentioning that WJC didn't get a majority of the popular vote to discredit his election, must be prepared to look at the GWB election in the same light. Or, just remember that the Electoral College count is the only one that matters.
GWB won, you don't have to keep kicking the dead horse of prior elections - the results are not going to change.

I'm not really arguing with you and I've never said that Clintoon wasn't legitimately elected--he was.
The sad thing is that even assuming Bush wins a massive victory in 2004, the same people will still be complaining that he is "illegitimate".

I didn't realize focusing on that which I can affect (the future) and not dwelling on that which I can not change (the past) was a leftist trait.
Bottom line, good doesn't always triumph over evil, and sometimes people don't get the comuppance they deserve or suffer the consequences they deserve for their actions. As I said, someday Bill Clinton will have to answer to a power higher than the U.S. justice system for what he's done in his life ... and there will be no polling data to save him, and no appeal from the verdict and sentence.

I heard a guy on a sports show on the radio the other day named Morris Engelberg, who was Joe DiMaggio's longtime associate and has just written a book about Joe. He cited about three or four occasions at various events where Bubba tried his darndest to weasel his way in to meet Joe, I guess for photo op purposes, but Joe absolutely refused because he thought Clinton was a snake-oil salesman who'd hoodwinked the country and was immoral.

Sounds like the book should be a good read.
For as liberal as this state is, at least our athletes seem to have it together politically. Bobby had a huge rally with almost every major athlete in attendance en route to defeating KKT. I'm sure you knew that though.
BTW, Michael Steele is appearing at Ropewalk Tavern in Federal Hill tonight for the Young Republicans recruitment drive. I don't know how old you are but its $25 a head and starts at 7.

I'm several states away from Md. ... but I think just like the Dixie Chicks misread the political leanings of the average country music fan in this country, a lot of libs who try to enforce political correctness and institutionalize liberalism in the sports world (for example, the mess at the Masters) have misread the political leanings of a lot of athletes and sports fans. I'm a journalist and I can tell you for a fact, since I saw him take his uniform off in the locker room afterward, that Jeff Blauser, who used to play shortstop for Atlanta, wore an "Impeach President Clinton And Her Husband" T-shirt underneath his jersey during one of the Braves' NL playoff games against the Phillies that I covered in '93.

But IMHO, the U.S. people aside from the far left fringe were tired of him and ready for him to be gone in 2001, and wish he would shut up now.Yes, that's true, but he just won't do that, will he? As long as the Skunk draws breath, as an American citizen, I have the right to point out his 'Extreme Leftist Attitudes Actions and Beliefs' whenever I choose. You can ignore he and his (alleged) spouses Anti-American behavior all you want, and lucky you,we'll watch over them for you, at no charge. Why should we, as Americans, underestimate manipulative people who 'Create Havoc' on purpose?

What's "useful" about him? Useful in the sense that 8 years of his cluster---- administration should result in people realizing x42 for who x42 was; AND in due time, electing a vast conservative majority for some time to come. The Left is imploding...and people (politically involved as well as non-politically involved) are noticing them for the anti-American bastards that they are.

You overestimate the Clintons' power and ability to create chaos. Constitutionally, Bill can never be president again. I am willing to bet my annual salary for the next 20 years that Hillary will never come anywhere close to the presidency. Chelsea will never come anywhere close to the presidency.
They can run their mouths all they want to, but can they really accomplish anything? Can they really cause chaos? No. They will not influence one human being who was not already predisposed to support them (i.e., the flotsam and jetsam of the Trotskyite left).
I don't fear the Clintons one bit. In fact, my fondest dream is that Hillary is nominated to run against G.W. in 2004. Bring her on! Let's get this battle waged once and for all.
However, I think some posters here and at other conservative forums do fear the Clintons.
I also accept the reality that Bubba will never, at least in this life, suffer any consequences save boos for the damage he did to this country and to the institution of the presidency. If others want to dream that it might happen, have at it.
Personally, if we could get Estrada and Owen and Bill Pryor through the Senate and on the federal bench and strengthen the conservative majority on the Supreme Court, but the tradeoff for that would be a Bubba Channel of "Bill Clinton's Greatest Hits" on every cable system in America 365/24/7, I wouldn't fuss about the Bubba Channel (I could program it out).
