The hearing was called to promote Mr. Alexander's proposed legislation to create federally funded two-week summer presidential academies for American history and civics teachers and four-week summer congressional academies for students of American history and civics.Of course, teachers and students should have a thorough knowledge of US history and Civics. However, it is not a function of the federal government's budget to pay for it.

So you're just hoping this will spontaneously happen? Or that because you're making it happen in your area, it'll spread like wildfire?
I think Bush is doing his best to work with what he has. If he didn't, things could get worse.

However, it is not a function of the federal government's budget to pay for it. But that would require knowledge of the Constitution to know that. I think it is ironic that the proposed solution to ignorance of our history and Constitution is unconstitutional use of power.
