Of course, teachers and students should have a thorough knowledge of US history and Civics. However, it is not a function of the federal government's budget to pay for it.

So you're just hoping this will spontaneously happen? Or that because you're making it happen in your area, it'll spread like wildfire?

I think Bush is doing his best to work with what he has. If he didn't, things could get worse.

I don't think that there is any evidence that public education has improved since the federal government started spending big bucks on it. Whenever a government subsidy gets involved, it ends up replacing whatever there was to begin with.

What I would like to see is a mandate that certain courses must be taught in every public school, so parents could at least have the option that their children take those traditional courses. But, there should not be federal subsidies for that to happen.
