(Vanity) I saw George and Barbara Bush at Last Night's Astros Game--A few nice observations

Not much to report here, but I thought that you folks might like to hear about the Bush's visit to Minute Maid Park for last night's Astros-Reds game.

I was in a suite just behind home plate, which means I could peer down and easily see the former President and First Lady (they have field level seats behind home plate, right next to Astros owner Drayton McLain and his wife).

During their time at the game, people were coming up to GHWB between innings, shaking his hand (with one guy actually giving him a high-five). This must have happened at least a dozen times, and seemed very sincere and natural--folks passing on good wishes for the President on such a historic day via his parents.

Right before they left, the PA announcer showed the two on the big screen and folks gave them a standing ovation as they left their seats.

A pretty nice scene on a lovely day for baseball (Astros winning the game didn't hurt, either).

(Note: There were at least 4-5 S.Service folks in the vicinity, including 2 directly behind them at all times. The well-wishers were fellow season-ticket holders from that section, so it's not like I could have waltzed down there and done this myself.)

I happen to know that the Kennebunkport detail with George and Barbara Bush is one of the most highly-prized assignments in the U.S. Secret Service. I don't want to give details because they're kind of personal, but both Gaorge and Barbara have a lot of class.
