The Flower Grew in the Dark

How can it be?
From under the snow
The flowers emerge
And begin to grow

How can it be?
The seed that dies
Goes into the ground
Only to arise

How can the humble
The meek and the lost
Find redemption again?
Only at great cost

How can a people
Break the tyrant's chain?
If the strong will help them
They can rise again

Miracles happen
Every single day
If we will only work
If we will only pray

EV

Perhaps most telling about the tale is the Russian's smile on the ^Red Crescent ambulance, when caught offguard.

This page is loading the pix, but I need to leave for work. If it's not on this page already, could someone post that great picture [or post a link to it] of the Iraqis carrying the sign that said "Human Shields American wankers go home"?

Don't know why, but this pic reminded me of Janeane Garofalo's promise to O'Reilly. Wow, Garfo....hope you wear thick kneedpads for your crawl over broken glass to the White House.

Too much to watch

A Jordanian in Amman covers his face in front of a television showing a U.S. Marine draping a U.S. flag over the face of a statue of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Baghdad on Wednesday. Jubilant Iraqis tied a noose around the statue and pelted it with shoes as Saddam's 24-year rule collapsed in chaos.

Not a game

Elevator operators Darwin Cabadeana, left, and Ensley Taylor from the V-1 Division look at the positions of aircraft on the flight deck in a control room aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in the northern Persian Gulf on Wednesday.

Chamber of horrors

An alleged torture chamber is seen in the basement of a jail in Basra, Iraq, on Tuesday. Locals told journalists that for decades Saddam Hussein's secret police tortured inmates at the jail with beatings, mutilations, electric shocks and chemical baths.

Gone fishing

Pfc. Mark Bennett drops a line in the lake surrounding one of Saddam Hussein's palaces in western Baghdad. Bennett was using noodles from a chicken with noodles MRE as bait, but didn't have any luck.
