Lets show the troops and their families that we care.

RALLY FOR THE TROOPS RALLY FOR THE TROOPS RALLY FOR THE TROOPS
Bring your American Flag, a lawn chair and your support to the McMahon Auditorium Parking lot on Friday, April 11, 2003 at 6:30 pm for the "Support Our Troops" rally. Several area businesses have teamed up with individuals in our community to put together a rally that will be free and open to the public to show Lawton/Fort Sill cares about the soldiers and to salute their courage and sacrifice.
The event will be emceed by Eric Sharum and Jeri Anderson from KLAW. The event will kick off with help from the local troops of the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts of America who have been invited to help lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Special guest speakers include Lawton/Fort Sill Mayor Cecil Powell, Fort Sill Garrison Commander Colonel George Steuber and Senator Sam Helton. Miss Lawton, Lizzi Wolf, will perform the National Anthem and God Bless America. Representatives of local Veteran groups have been asked to attend for special seating and recognition. Several area high school students will help pass out mini American flags and yellow ribbons. Free refreshments will also be available on a first come, first served basis. The event will wrap up with a massive patriotic balloon launch with help from the audience.
As part of this special event, area elementary students have been asked to participate in the "Letters from Home" campaign. These letters will be collected at the rally and delivered to a Fort Sill point of contact who will help distribute them as troops deploy. Collections will also include phone cards to be delivered to the troops as part of a program to help the soldiers stay in contact with loved ones back at home. Information will also be distributed to inform the public on ways to help the deployed soldiers and their families.
For more information, contact Kim Dodds at 580-581-3600 or Amy Ewing-Holmstrom at 580-355-4677.
