Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Ted Danson told us on TV in 1985 that we had only 10 more years before the oceans would dry up.

His hair fell out faster.

Have you read the papers that theorize oil isn't a "fossil" fuel at all in that sense and that it's manufactured by the planet itself through many means? They've found funky leaks in the deep Gulf of Mexico with oil pumping out of fissures.

well, sometimes I let people know when they have mail and I want an immediate response...
I'm sure y'all don't want my recipe for enchiladas, or want to see me getting html help, or listen to my somewhat filthy jokes.

I never intend to be rude....

I also remember during the "Energy Crisis" the many reputable scientists who said that all the world's oil resources would be used up by 2012.

I remember that too and I also remember reading since then that world oil consumption has risen well above the projections used for that prediction. Seems there's more oil than we've been told.

I think the closest Paula gets to toxic chemicals,is in her hairdresser's chair. Remember, this is the gal who was being sued by her landscaper for 100,000 in unpaid gardening bills,

Really! I had not heard that.

OMG! I thought you had your solution the other day with the breaking news window??

Cripes Jackie... take a deep breath... slow down and read what I said. I DID and still DO HAVE MY SOLUTION. We aren't talking about me. We're talking about Krodg and anyone else like Krodg (and formerly me) who drops in on this thread and is frustrated because it's hard to sift through everything to FIND the news.

For everyone: In the future, if ANYONE posts frustration about this issue, just REFER THEM TO THE BREAKING NEWS / REGULAR NEWS pages, and don't waste your time with any other reply. Problem will be solved, for both sides.

Another suggestion:

ADD THE LINKS FOR **BREAKING NEWS** and **REGULAR NEWS** to the section at the beginning of the thread where the streaming news / BagCam links are.

After this, my first winter in VT, I'd buy that. If global warming gets any worse we'll have polar bears down here next winter.

Well, since "make a claim and don't back it up" left...

A 6 month supply of oil for the U.S. that is used to "pooh pooh" ANWR would be 3.42 Billion barrels of oil.

Now, being the geniuses they are, I'm assuming they mean a "6 month supply" to equal the daily consumption of oil times 180 days. The U.S. currently consumes right at 19 million barrels a day.

Now, we import 11 million a day from foreign sources (9.9% Canada, 7.9% Saudi, 7.8% Mexico, 2.2% Iraq).

Of that amount, we get 870,000 per day from Saudi Arabia.
That would make the ANWR find equal to 11 years of their oil.

We get 242,000 a day from Iraq and ANWR then would be equal to 38.7 years of Iraqi oil.

Now, I don't believe the "6 month figure" so if it's anything over that, pure gravy!

The nice thing about the written word is if you see noise you can slide right by it without too much cognitive dissonance if you git ma drift. If the signal to noise ratio becomes unbearable you can slip away to places where the ratio is more felicitous. Verstahenze?

The nice thing about free republic is you can add your own noise without getting a bloody nose except psychically.
