The Georgia House voted Tuesday night to change the state flag and set up a possible referendum on the Confederate battle emblem.
The Georgia House voted to change the state flag and set up a possible referendum on the Confederate battle emblem. Voters will first vote up or down on a new flag. If rejected, voters will choose between the former GA flag, including the controversial St. Andrew's Cross, versus the pre-1956 version resembling the Stars and Bars.
If the Senate also approves the bill, as expected, Georgia will take down the current flag, which was changed in 2001 to shrink the rebel cross. The replacement flag would feature the state seal on a blue field in the top left corner, with three red-and-white stripes and the words ``In God We Trust'' to the right.
Next March 2, an up-or-down vote on the newest flag would be held.
If it were to fail, a second vote in July would pit the most recent flag, with the controversial St. Andrew's Cross...against the state flag that flew before 1956 -- which also resembles the Stars and Bars.
The votes would be binding -- the winner of either balloting would win a place in state law.
Black lawmakers launched more than six hours of debate to block the bill because they oppose any chance for a public vote on the Confederate symbol.
If voters reject the three-stripe flag next year, a statewide referendum on restoring an old flag with its Confederate symbol would be held. The bill eventually passed 111-to-67 with just about 20 minutes before midnight, when the bill would have died for the year.

Unbelieveable statements. Thanks for the post.
(sarcasm)How noble of you.
Texas First Regiment flag CSA. Flag used by that Texas Brigade to fight the Union. No different from the CSA Battle Flag (morally)only more specific. And the "Lone Star" was adopted from the Bonnie Blue flag used by many Cotton States of the South and by the CSA at times both governmentally and militarily. Here is the Mississippi Flag of the antebellum era and during the WBTS: The Battle Flag has been demonized as the boogeyman. By the social engineer's standards, there are plenty of other targets out there. Hell, slavery and Yankee slave ships flourished under Old Glory for a good while. When would you care that the PC folks stop? ...is there a line in the sand or can they just keep coming till they've demonized all history prior to the 1960s?...They won't stop voluntarily. If you don't believe me ask Wlat...he's their Grand Poohbah.
