This is just like the Liberation of Paris, 1944. We liberated France and Germany from tyranny. The French and Germans should be ashamed of themselves for wanting to deny to the Iraqi people what they received themselves. If they had any honor at all, they would have realized that the best way to repay the US and Britain for the Liberation would have been to join us in liberating another nation from an evil dictator.

That statue is GONE and Iraqis rose up and are jumping on it, throwing bricks at it, etc. Great moment! And Al Jazeera carried it live to all the other Arab dictators, great food for thought for them and great inspiration to those who crave freedom in those lands!

And just as quickly, the ABC news radio person said "well, we don't want to appear as conquerors, perhaps the flag display is not the best thing we could be doing.."

I was glad to see them take Old Glory off of Saddam's head, but not for that reason. When they pulled the statue down, I did not want to see our flag being pulled down with him.

The Marines did a classy thing. They took the stars and stripes and placed in the face of Hussein. They removed the stars and stripes and then took the Iraqi flag and placed it below his face. They then removed the Iraqi flag before pulling down the statue of Hussein. IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT! Semper Fi

I visited DU just a second ago and they are indeed a forlorn bunch. Their "pulling down the Statue" thread is like 56 posts long and there are about two positive comments. Simply amazing. I suspect the DU'ers would have been bummed when the statues of Lenin came down.
