U.S. Marines take "secret police" headquarters
BAGHDAD, April 9 (Reuters) - U.S. Marines seized what they described as a headquarters of President Saddam Hussein's secret police in Baghdad on Wednesday, a Reuters correspondent who entered the building reported.
Sean Maguire said the deserted Directorate of General Security (DGS) in the east of the capital was seized on Wednesday morning. The site was being looted by local people when the Marines arrived, he said.
"The major threat was not running over the 400 looters who were stripping the place," U.S. Marine Major Joseph Clearfield told Reuters. U.S. forces said the building housed the political directorate of the DGS, tasked with investigating political crimes.
Maguire said the offices looked as if they had fallen into disuse. Some rooms were filled with files, some contained gas masks and other equipment. The site appeared to be made up mainly of administrative offices rather than a jail complex.

I wonder if these are where the files are kept on all the kiddies that Sadaam offered Scotty Ritter.
This bastard is going to look worse than Sadaam when this is all over

Damn right. Save those files for a thorough going over. Mssrs. Ritter and Blix may have a couple interesting dossiers.

I am confident the United States Marines are securing the Iraqi Secret Police facility in time for operatives of the DIA or CIA to get in there and retrieve the files, floppies, etc.. This will be a goldmine. It will also be a SOLID indictment of all the International A.N.S.W.E.R. - types and how STUPID and naive they were all along. Once they see what this regime did to opponents. And the regimes plans to use human shields for political purposes, even perhaps placing them purposely in danger to protect Ba'athist centers of power.

Ah! So the anti-war protesters and the human shields were protecting the secret police as well as the children's prison and the torture chambers!

There won't be evidence in this building -- it was stripped and cleaned out weeks ago by the Iraqi regime. I hope we find it, but I very much doubt that we'll find it in this building. Any more than we're finding the WMD in the WMD production sites -- it's all been moved to less conspicuous places.

I wonder if these are where the files are kept on all the kiddies that Sadaam offered Scotty Ritter. Since we already know about Scotty-boy, I'm waiting to see the names of Scotty's "colleagues", as yet unnamed. Wacquo Jacquo chIraq was a good, personal friend of Saddam going back decades...

On NBC Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric were side-by-each at the desk reporting on the freedom of Iraq this morning. Tom informed the viewers and Katie that he had to "bail out and go to a studio across the street".
Katie responded, "was it something I said?"
Tom replies, "where do I begin."
Katie: "ouch"

Is my understanding correct that Mukhabarat (intelligence) headquarters is in the same Mansur neighborhood as the Al Saa restaurant we bombed on Monday?

Hell, ANSWER may have gotten some funding from Saddam's boys.

Hell, ANSWER may have gotten some funding from Saddam's boys. And, if they did, I wonder what office(s) in Baghdad would have records of the transaction(s).

I almost couldn't believe my ears. Tom Brokaw took a good shot at Katie as she was sitting next to him on national television. It was a truly rare moment to be relished.

Katie: "ouch" Meanwhile, over on CNN, Wolf Blitzer got snookered by one of Howard Stern's guys. Wolfie had put a guy on the air whom Wolf THOUGHT was in Baghdad. The guy finished up by saying, "There's even some talk here, Wolf, of replacing the Iraqi Information Minister with Howard Stern."
Wolfie turned crimson, stammeered out something along the lines of "we've lost that connection," and then flipped it to "I'm So Poor" and ducked into the john to vomit.
Happened about a half-hour ago.
