One thing that you can say about Southie is that they are very proud of their service to the country. I lived there for seven years and I noticed that a pretty high percentage served in the military over the years. Of course, now that the Eastern part (City Point) is getting gentrified that sentiment might be changing. It would be fun to watch those peace protestors try to march down Broadway - LOL.

The lower end is even more gentrified -- some of those people are paying big bucks for a condo across the street from the project (!). The Point is more stable; my cousin has a house down the Point she inherited from her mother. When her mother died, the appraiser more or less had to make up a figure since most of those nice houses never get sold, just inherited.

I suggested this on the state thread, but here it is again. Do you think you might try to get an announcement on southbostononline.com? My sister knows a number of people who would have shown up at the last one but they didn't here about it until afterward. In fact, she thought it would probably be posted on Southie On-line.

Good advice -- they've clamped down on parking violations in Southie, anyway, lately.

For those who want to take the T to Southie, there are several options: You can get the no. 7 bus at South Station (Red Line and commuter rail). On Saturdays, it leaves South Station at 11:10, 11:35 and noon. The bus stop is on Summer Street, actually behind South Station, just at the Stone & Webster building. Get off at L and Broadway and walk straight (about 6 blocks) to the L Street Bathhouse. You can get the no. 9 (City Point) bus at Copley Square (Green Line). On Saturdays, it leaves Copley at 11:05, 11:25 and 11:43. The stop is at the Boylston side of the main library building. Again, you can get off at L and Broadway. The 9 also stops at Broadway Station. You can get the no. 11 (Bay View) at Broadway Station (Red Line). On Saturdays, it should leave Broadway Station at 11:17, 11:37 and 11:57. (Be sure you get on the bus heading toward the Point and not downtown -- some people get confused.) Get off at L and 8th for the L Street Bathhouse and walk a couple of blocks.

You can get the no. 10 (City Point) at Andrew Station (Red Line). On Saturdays, leaves Andrew at 11:27 and 11:58. The no. 5 also runs through Andrew; Saturdays at 11:21. Get off at L and Broadway and walk.

All of these buses stop on Farragut Road -- which might be a good additional meeting place for those who will take the T??? Actually, I was planning on walking down that way myself (I live near O and 2nd).

I have no idea; I was actually thinking of e-mailing Lynch. (He lives on G Street, and I go by his house sometimes, depending on how I go to my sister's. He's flying a flag, and has red, white and blue bunting draped from the front window boxes.) He is a Dem, but probably more conservative and patriotic than way too many Republicans. (Was it an Iranian flag-burner he got arrested for punching in the street years ago? Because of that incident, Howie Carr listed him as a "winner" post-9/11.)

I said I was thinking of e-mailing Lynch, and I may, but I think it would be better if someone with "standing" did it -- one of the organizers -- and maybe made it more of an invitation.

Hart I don't know much about -- except that my sister (who follows the local situation more than I do) is not terribly impressed.

I have worked in Southie for 20 years and know some rather interesting people, Harts sister, Maureen, is married to an Army officer where is he? According to some people, Lynch and the protester is Urban Myth, where is he?

As far as I know, Lynch has an arrest record for the incident, which someone found - and publicized -- just a week or two before the primary for the special election to replace Moakley, which was held on 9/11 -- yes, the 9/11. Someone on FR -- I forget who -- thought Lynch shouldn't be elected because he obviously had no respect for free speech. (I kid you not!) The incident -- while not a kick in the teeth, at least in Southie, before 9/11 -- wasn't nearly the plus it became afterwards.

As an afterthought -- for those who don't know the area -- the Farragut Road stop is pretty close to Castle Island.
