Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I read a brief comment on another thread that Ollie North has reported people hung and shot with signs that say "Baath Party Official" put on them.
Anybody else heard this? thanks

What is the policy of war prizes/booty? Are us soldiers allowed to have souveniers of the war? This is a war and taking the spoils is a prized tradition.
To: longtermmemmory
I think it's one of those "we're gonna look the other way whilst you do it" kind of things.

I heard that your CO has to give written permission and Tommy Franks has to, also.
To: honeygrl
. . . those journalists were over there for US so that we could see what went on . . . Some are honest, others are not. The dishonest ones will complain when they are exposed. See CNN (Blitzer, Amanpour), etc. for agenda-driven reporting.
To: longtermmemmory
I wouldn't think this time. Look at the disgusting bias.

I watched on FNC yesterday, they were talking to a lawyer about that. It is not condoned, but if they say take something inert like a brick nobody will say anything. I guess it can't be anything too valuable.

Lots of troops got in trouble smuggling back small arms after Grenada. I hear the Iraqi officer berets are hot for horsetradin. What you got to trade?
