I swear, sometimes I think they need a water cannon to break up the fights!

We need more fights....with more of us involved.

same with the -stans, every week there's a new -stan coming out

I'm not real big on "-stan" history, but the area is so sparsely populated (due to lack of resources) that I suspect the number of -stan countries hasn't changed for a few generations. Africa and the Balkans are a different story.

In some ways, that picture disturbs me, I know it's his happiness, but it just looks alittle creepy.

In more ways than one. The first time that I saw it, I thought that the kisser was Daschle. (shudder)

...Michael Reagan...

Kept bringing up memories of the Berlin Wall coming down.

For those of us who remember sitting there awestruck, with tears in our eyes, watching that and thanking God for having given the world President Reagan: Could we have taken it, with Free Republic and BerlinCams?

My heroes have always been cowboys!

I just remember having to memorize all the countries in asia and identify them on a map for a test in like 8th grade and the -stans were the hardest part, so many of them are obscure and look the same to me. I just have an inherent hatred for convoluted geography...

Part of the delay in Afghanistan after 9-11 was so the weaponry (bombs) could be replenished from the Clinton era--where they were used but not replenished.

The fact military spending on certain things are pet projects for Congressmen, including Dems, some survived. Rummy is changing a lot of that.

And as I've said, I'd like to see some reports on how much of this was accomplished since Bush took office and he and Rummy started changing priorities.

This success belongs to them. The equipment might still be from Clinton's years, but the strategy isn't. I don't think the Spec Ops (Delta Force, Green Berets, Navy Seals, CIA) would have this much leeway and ability to act. Ninety percent of the strikes on Baghdad, under Clintoon, would have been polled, talked about for hours, and made through political decisions only.

This is a known fact. The authour of a new book by Patterson, who carried the nuke football from 1996-1998, says nothing was done in the Clinton years that wasn't talked to death. He says they missed a two-hour window of opportunity to take out Osama due to polling and needless political discussion.

And the fact they couldn't find ol Billy once when he needed to turn a key!

'nother paragraph from Hitchens:

So I'm glad to extend the hand of friendship to my former antagonists and to begin the long healing process. Perhaps one might start by meeting another of their demands and lifting the sanctions? Now the inspectors are well and truly in, there's no further need for an embargo. I noticed that Kofi Annan this week announced that the Iraqi people should be the ones to decide their own government and future. I don't mind that he never said this before: It's enough that he says it now.
